semi safe mode?

Ok here's the deal .. it's basically just a question.

ok b16a2 computer on a ITR. (geting a new ecu) but the SI IAT (internal air temp) sensor is on the physical intake.. on a itr and gsr it's on the intake mani.

well im throwing that code and im pretty sure hotter iat makes the car run richer but i know some codes will put a car in safe mode but will a IAT code on a SI put it in a semi safe mode cause i have my vtec i have all my rpms etc

btw, its Intake Air Temperature

i know for a fact that the iat sensor did not put my car in safe mode when not hooked up. it still ran fine. but i did have a CEL. granted, this was in a b16a/civic hatch. with pr3 ecu. but i am inclined to say that the iat sensor should not affect safe mode.
