What's the difference between shift linkage and shift cable? Is there a difference? Would both be needed in an automatic to manual swap

shift linkage is 2 long bars and shift cables are 2 cables

What kind of swap is it? H/F/K series use cable shift linkages, D/B uses solid linkage.
