what exactly does this mean ? when somebody says "as long as you can put everything back to TDC" what is everything and what does it mean ?

Top Dead Center. When a piston is at the utmost top of its stroke. Bottom Dead Center(BDC) When a piston is at the bottom of its stroke.

so what does "bring everything back to TDC" mean ?

it means do your work with piston #1 at TDC, piston #1 is the furthest ouside on the drivers side. there is a white mark on your crank pully and a pointer on the block to show when it is at TDC.
