I have a buddy selling a p28 chipped ecu. I have a 1996 hatch, with out vtec.
Could the p28 ecu work even though its vtec? I know I have to get a obd2 to obd1 convertion harness..only thing that bugs me is if it will work, because its vtec.

You'd have to get it reprogrammed to run your motor correctly, and that's going to cost you money. I'd recommend just using the stock ECU that goes with the motor for now. If you plan on switching to OBD1 and tuning your car in the future, then maybe buy the P28 from your buddy and just set it aside for now.
are you going turbo or something that requires another tune then the stock bin? You cant chip a obd2 ecu, and if you are turboing get the 0bd1 p28, and a 0bd2a to obd1 conversion harness. If your tuner knows what hes doing he can turn off vtec in the tune
yes that not a problem, When I was tuned I had my tuner turn off all cel codes also, just incase for emission purposes. I know vtec can be turned off in Chrome. Good luck with the build if you have any more questions feel free to ask
also, your still going to need the bin retuned, and when your ready to get tuned, either have your tuner install your larger injectors or do it yourself and have it towed to him. once you install your larger injectors your car will not start without being tuned for it
