Finally, there exists combo washer/dryers! I've been inventing this for 30 years. lol

Our dryer is on the way out and the washer is 10 years old too, so it's time for a new set.
Anyone know anything about these new combo units that wash and dry? The key thing that baffles me is that they are ventless. Where does the moisture/steam go when drying?

eg: https://www.lowes.com/collections/G...All-in-One-Washer-Dryer-with-Pedestal/GR_9214
no exhaust vent for the dryer.

so strange.

I'm thinking about convincing the wife to get 2 all in one units and just blast out clothes all in one shot. With the kids, we're struggling keeping up with laundry and this would help a lot.

Also interesting fact i just noticed -- it uses a standard 110 plug, not a 30amp or 50amp typical dryer connection. I wouldn't need to run a 2nd large outlet there -- which i thought would be the case if i were to get 2 units.
so, it will use less power, which is nice.

i was considering running a gas line to my laundry area. I don't know why they didn't when they built the house.
The laundry is right next to the gas furnace closet with a hard-line run. couldn't be more than a few bucks to do it. I dunno. i always thought gas dryers were more efficient.

But with these, electric would be nice. 110 even better.

but not if they are crap. Seems to be 50/50, people love them or hate them. very few 3/4 star reviews.

One was put in OL's grandmother's house because she can't go up and down the stairs to the basement anymore.

They say it's effective for it's intended use, but likely washer and dryer stand-alones are better at doing their specific function.

The vent-less seemed interesting to me as well.

When I was in the market for a new washer dryer combo, it seemed that the only efficiency improvement that impacts a dryer is how much water the washer can extract from the clothes before they go in the dryer. So I only replaced the washer and kept the old dryer that worked fine.

Old dryer vs new dryer, no efficiency improvements all things being equal.

I would avoid them. I serviced washers/dryers for years at my summer gig. Water and dryers don't mix as we had issues with the "steam" functions on the dryers when they came out. Nothing beats a purpose built tool/machine. The only multi-tool I own is a Leatherman.

I used one in the hotel in Riyadh a few months ago- granted only like 3 loads, but it worked well. Definitely not a mainstream brand like GE either. As far as being more power efficient, technically the 220V unit will be more power efficient than the 110V. :D

It's here.
It's heavy as heck. The guys struggled getting it up the stairs with moving straps. Got their workout in for sure.

Ran the 'test' cycle and all seems to work.

it's pretty quiet, but still very audible when the water is running and spin cycles, i guess to be expected.

What I didn't anticipate is -- I now have a 4" pipe to outside that I need to plug. no vent = what do you do with the vent hole? lol I guess i'll pick up some insulation and stuff the pipe and close it off for now. It's up high enough so i shouldn't have to worry about critters getting in, hopefully.

And, since it's one instead of 2 units it's ugly. Lol. I need to clean the floor and then the plan is to move it to the left to block the pipe and get a table or something for the right side to put baskets on.

Maybe we'll get a 2nd unit and blast out work 😃

yup, for the winter stuff the pipe with insulation and put a bowl over it as a just incase.

i have those same shelving strips in my garage. one of them holds up my powerwasher ;)

Gotchya #2 that we didn't think about...

we use those dryer lint balls instead of sheets. Well, can't use that any more. I guess we're forced to use fabric softener or some other kind of static reducer. TBD.

It takes a long time. 2.5 hours.

things come out damp.

so far, not digging it.

But, there's like 223443 settings for wash and dry so it may be user error until we get the right combos down.

I stuffed the pipe end with an old t-shirt that i wrapped in window seals (like you'd use on a window ac) and then duct (actual) tapped it up. it was definitely drafty, so hopefully that keeps the cold air out.

3rd load came out dry, we tried some different settings. I think the key is to give it control. It has an AI setting with sensors and that one worked pretty well.

This is how the machines start to take over.

Does it automatically start drying the load when it's done washing or do you have to start the drying feature?

it automatically starts if you want it to. You can wash, dry, or both. load dirty clothes. recieve clean and dry clothes after a couple hours.

It even holds a LOT of soap. Fill it up with like a liter of soap and don't have to lug the jugs around all the time. Pretty cool feature.

We're still struggling with wrinkled like crazy clothes due to no sheets/balls. we're looking into those silicon balls instead that can get wet. Not sure if it impacts the wash cycle though.

The app is pretty good. LG ThinQ. my fridge is an LG as well so it's part of the network now and it sends you a push nitifcation when the wash is done, or you can start it later, remotely, from where ever.

My wife has been loading the machine in the morning.
and kicking it off at 3pm so its done when she gets home from work and doesn't sit there all day to wrinkle more.

thinq is great! i love it for the filter reminders, as well as the notification that someone left the fridge door open.

for fixing the wrinkles, a wet and rung out dish cloth is enough on a quick 10-15 minute dry cycle to get most tough wrinkles out.

oh ye of old tech... it has a mist and touch up cycle :D just annoying is all. Got the balls in from amazon today.
trying them tonight.

It's a little better with the balls but not much. Found a free and clear fabric softener and will try adding that.

not a big fan of those... i dont mind washing most clothes with a paper fabric softener but i always avoid all body, hand, and dish towels and my fancy sweat wicking socks. all washed separately.

funny that you mentioned this new technology as well.

we have an older non fancy GE pair that i really wanted cuz its easier/cheaper to fix mechanics than electronics (like my stupid frigidaire kitchen appliances) so earlier in the year my dryer threw the belt, it was an easy fix. week before last the washer wouldnt pump the water out, went online and found someone must have left it in a pause cycle so 24 hours later it pumps and spins for 5 minutes before resetting. even after unplugging it, it still wants to finish the cycle. glad i didnt tear it apart to check the pump :)

Yea we never used fabric softener either. Gonna try to find something better at some point. Don't want the extra B's on our skin
