If you wanna get something that's gonna rev to 8500 from the factory, then you're gonna spend most of your $6,000 on just the motor. Look towards a B18C5 or K20A2 or Z3. And as far as the H22 goes, it's more than just mounts, you also have to do some cutting of the transmission tunnel to get the shifter to come up through.
If I was gonna boost a car, I wouldn't start with the B18C5. It's got a high compression ratio, it makes all it's power in the high rpms, and the transmission has super short gears. Not the best setup for boost in my opinion. Not to mention the price tag; like I said, you're gonna spend most of your money just getting the motor and putting it in your car.
I still vote for an LS swap with the LS tranny, or even a GSR if you want something with a few more horses and a slightly shorter-geared tranny. In my opinion though, if you're going to be tearing the motor down and building it for turbo then do you really need to start with the highest horsepower motor that the factory makes?
I vote for an LS because it makes decent power down low, and the longer-geared tranny is meant to work with that type of setup. You have to rev the piss out of the VTEC motors to get to their power band. Why do you need a ridiculously high redline for this project? You should be looking for a motor that makes power even in the low rpms, and has a transmission that allows it to stay in boost for a good amount of time so you don't end up dropping it when you shift gears. The LS just makes sense to me for a turbo build up.
