i have an 89 b16 5 speed tranny on a 93 ls and its turning 3000 rpms give or take a few at 55 mph...and i cant figure out why. there is no clutches in the tranny to make it slip like an auto. my clutch grabs and holds fine. i dont understand why its turning that high. any help would be greatly appriciated thanks in advace

i know there short but that short?!?!? looks like my tranny might be going to the man for an LS 5th....:(

my tranny 2700rpm 4th gear is 50 mph, now i know your gears are close than my dx tranny but still, 3 grand at 55 in 5th gear? somebody try to make a franken tranny?

Engine RPM / 5th gear ratio / final drive ratio = axle RPMs

axle RPMS / Tire Rotations per mile (Found Here) = Miles per minute

then...

Miles per minute x 60 = Miles per hour

yes thats how short the B16 gears are. there is nothing wrong or changed in the tranny thats just how it is.

all i can say is if you daily drive highways a lot, you may want to consider a quiet exhaust system, lol, some of my friends were about 4 carlengths behind me the other day on interstate and we was doin 80 or so, 4 grand ish on reg. throttle and they called me telling me to coast...

:p

lol, my car goes down the highway at 80 at 4000 rpms. Its a honda. This isn't really that weird in imports or 4 cylinders. My dads mini is about 3500, and same with his Miata.

in 5th gear with a 4.4 final drive:
55 mph - 3000 rpm
65 mph - 3500 rpm
72 mph - 4000 rpm
80 mph - 4500 rpm
110 mph - 5500 rpm

That's just the way the B16 trannies are man.

It's even worse at 120. 17 mpg owns...

that's just how b16 trannies are, SHORT. i used to have one on my gsr, pulls good when you're racing, but i hate to take it on the free way. think b16 are short, try type r.

alright, thanks, i was worried it was something wrong with mine. this is actually the first b series swap i have done. ive done many mini me swaps and stupid little things here and there. ive helped friends do them but this is the first one ive done and driven at highway speeds. usualy it was wide open or putting around so i didnt realize what rpms it was turning. befor the crx i drove a 93 3.0 ford ranger and it turned about 23-2500 at highway speeds and all the civics ive rode in turn about the same so.... i appriciate the help, im gonna put a thread in some other forum on here with a list of all the stuff ive done to it and a not so finished picture so look out for it and let me know what you think! thanks again! later
