I'm in the works of swapping an LS into my eg, just bc it was alot cheaper and easier to aquire. My buddy was runnin 8.5 lbs on his B18A on stock motor except for an FMU. I know he had a problem with his intercooler piping blowing off so I don't know if it ever hit 8.5 lbs but he said it did, before he took on some water one day :(. Do you guys know how much boost these can handle stock?
 
without tuning & ignition upgrades .. I've seen about 7 as the recommended safe-limit (add no more than 60% more power to a ~stock motor)
 
tuning is everything i had just 7 on my stock and it couldnt handle it. im sure it could have if i would have had a proper tune tho. do your research and tune it right the first time
 
Well he was pushin 8 and his car ran surprisingly well. Stedcivic i noticed you said you pushed 7 lbs and your motor could'nt handle it. I thought you could'nt tune an FMU. And what motor was that? I noticed your your sig says B18C. I'm runnin the B18B, don't quote me on this i'm just going by what i'm learning but do you think the LS motor could handle more boost bc of the lower compression? I know those GSR's run a bit higher then the LS motors.
 
i have b18c with chiped ecu running crome pro yes lower compression is better for turbo so you might be alright but im no expert by any means
 
i would run no more than 6 psi at all times. any more than that will make the rods give out over time( rods are the weakest link in the honda block) you WILL need to tune your ecu or your car will run really erratically.phearable.net has a really good setup. they did my car (d16z6 pushing 375 ponies!!) and i'm very pleased. my friend did all the tuning but their chips are very efficent. hope this helps.
 
Well i'm building a budget booster here. But i was actually leaning towards an AFC. My original plan was to swap in stock LS motor + FMU. Pushing around 8 psi and just retard the timing at the dizzy a bit, i know i would prob lose some power but i think that might promote longer rod life.

Ne way what i was getting at is getting it tuned right would be alot better because even at 7-8 psi runnin lean you will blow out your ringlands. The ls block in my opinion and many others is the best to turbo. It has torque,, slap a v-tec head, piston,rods your ready for 18 psi 400 whp daily!!!

if you go with an AFC you'll be tuning for the rest of your natural born life. you can spend the same amount and get your ecu worked on ( 20 to 40 hrs to tune an afc compared to 5 to 10 on the ecu) if you're worried about price don't be. the price is about the same. here's something the last guy forgot to mention. there is no way to get 400 hp out of the stock fuel system so don't listen to that. you would need at least 440's or better ( after 440's you need an aftermarket ecu due to the impedence of the injector. you will still need to have the ecu setup for larger 440 injectors) and you need a better spark ( this includes colder spark plugs, low resistance wires, coil booster) to run that much boost. anyways you were never planning on that were you (short term)?? i'd go with a set of precision injectors (440's) and have your ecu tuned. it's better to do it right the first time rather than having to go back and do the shit over. stock fuel system, stock spark, and stock computer i wouldn't push more than 5 to 6 psi. i have a bit of experience with this stuff ( i work at a shop that does turbo-specific work) and the outcome of improper setup is always nasty.

stock tune? 0.
stock motor? ~275 WHP, whatever psi it takes to get there... makes no frigging difference.
FMU? throw it out and get some real management on there.
 
I forgot to note and I'm not sure if someone else already has but, PSI does not equal HP.

you can run 6 PSI and get more HP than running at 8 PSI.
