yeah bad weekend for me too...lots of eating and drinking....just means i work out harder and get back to proper eating...thats alll

No where to take it other than what it is.. She can eat for 5 hours straight and not get full.

Broke down again, have to put the running on hold.
Did 5.5 miles on Feb 22nd. pain started around 40 minutes in, and i had to finish out the hour.
haven't been able to run since then, L ankle is messed up.
this time its on the inside of the ankle, i could swear its bone but docs are saying maybe tendonitis, rest/ice/compress/elevate for now and give it some time.
very disappointing.

Seriously. I think I've run on the treadmill a total of 40-50 times in my life. I hate the damn thing. I'd much rather spin, walk, do HIT, or lift with really short breaks in between sets.

At a small pet store that used to be down the street from me we would put my dog on the treadmill when we couldn't walk him due to extended bad weather. This was more when he was a hyper dog.
I don't care for treadmills either, but it woulld be nice right now with the cold weather that won't leave.
I am another one who can't run, I can a little down hill or on even ground but any change in terrain hurts my knees and shins.

Sorry to hear.

We have had this conversation two or three times but I will actually agree with someone else on health advice without correcting them for once. What B said, that there's a zillion other things that you can do that are better than running, is absolutely true.

The ways of running for 30 minutes or an hour have gone by the wayside. No high level athletes are ONLY training at those long durations and no everyday Joes that are in the know are only training at those durations.

HIIT has been where the focus has been for health and performance for the last 20 years.

Turn your runs into interval sprints/shuttle runs/tempo runs and you will have far less wear and tear on the body, better V02 max results, better muscle retention and gain, and a shorter workout.

If you go to a bike or an elliptical for the time being, because of your ankle, do the same thing with HIIT.
10-20, 30 second sprints, with a 10-30 second rest in between each. Cut your rest down from 1:1 to 1:1/2 as your fitness improves.

I do HIIT on an eliptical/stairstepper a couple days a week at work. Usually around 10-20 30-1min with 1 min slow/rest inbetween. It's a beast on the stair stepper. I almost take a trip to yak country every time.

I also read books on my kindle while I do it. Helps me keep my mind off of it.

Intervals on machines can be quite good. I personally prefer hill sprints, prowler sprints or pulls, and other things that offer real world application BUT...

You can't use technology to monitor your progress and increase your progress, the same way you can on a machine. I.e., on an eliptical, treadmill, exercise bike, etc. - you can either incrementally bump the resistance/incline or incrementally bump the speed. This gives you a very precise benchmark that you can look back on and gauge progress. I.e., March 4th, 2014 I was able to run 10.1mph at a 5% incline on the treadmill for 10, 30 second sprints with a 30 second rest. On April 4th, 2014 I was able to run 10.5mph at a 7% incline on the treadmill for... Now you have a very concrete answer to whether or not your health and fitness levels are improving instead of just stepping on a scale or running blood work (which you should do as well).

Yeah I get that.

I prefer long stairs for intervals or sprints but I hate running in the rain. Go figure.

Time traveler?

Been traveling the last two weeks staying at Courtyards. They have the LifeFitness treadmills. Such a big difference, feels like im running on cement. My Epic A42T has a very cushiony landing.

Some absolutely hotties here in Fresno that i saw in the gym. ....Running with a boner is hard, no pun intended

I think he meant....how on in the world were you running on April 4th 2014...its only March 5th 2014

I understand.

My reply was basically that it wasn't a real example, I can't run right now.

It was a characterization and dramatization. The characters in this story are not real but are based on real persons and real stories.

I really can't even believe that people still do steady-state running/jogging/treadmilling. It is ineffective and painful and hard and ineffective and ineffective.

Kettlebells, jump rope, sprints, stairs, hill runs, sleds, and weighted carries are anabolic AND will be more effective fat loss tools...post exercise oxygen consumption and resting metabolic rate INCREASE when you do these.

They DECREASE when you do steady-state cardio, which is catabolic and steals your musculature.

It's that goddammed dopamine rush that keeps people running, despite the injuries and lack of real results.

People will argue because they lost 20 lbs running or lost 4 pant sizes running but I contend that you could have made more injury-free, damage-free, RMR boosting gains, and have a leaner, stronger physique by replacing it with any of the movements listed above, and many more.

Get with the program and change your body ; )

I'm going to invest in companies that produce knee and hip joint prosthetics...the first wave of "runners" is just getting to that age and there are so many more to follow.

This post will either make you smile or send you into a rage.

Okay I'm done for now.

2-teens in february :) 190's by march? Maybe :)

well, I'm way behind that goal.... been eating too much thai food with noodles :/
