Most consumers don't think as far as you do, and it makes them FEEL secure. Which is really what it is all about.
 
Alot of times you can put a zipcode that from a neighboring town and it will still work, some protection there.
I think we should still have to use some sort of pin for credit cards.

In CT the Hess station that fought for the law to change for a cash discount on gas, was no longer giving a cash discount last time I drove by it. I also hate this discount. Now if it were like 8-10 years ago when I could fill a tank in my civic or crx for like 12-13 bucks I wouldn't care as much. But close to a 100 buck fill up at current gas prices for my truck, I hate being penalized because its easier to pay by debit card. I am somewhat surprised gas stations don't like cc purchases more since its less cash hanging around to get robbed.
