The sky gods are angry. Those are really amazing pictures though.

I bet you have a lot of hippies in that state. Just because I know they probably sit out there high on acid and trip for hours watching the Auroral activity.

What you can't see in pictures is how fast they can move. They'll be gently drifting across the sky almost too slow to perceive, then out of no where they'll surge violently, explode with colors blasting from one horizon to the other fast enough to make you think the sky is going to rip apart and the world will end.

That is pretty incredible, I would love to see something like that in my lifetime. I have some family up in Anchorage, AK and I wish the skies were like that when I went to visit them.

I think some photographers use long exposures when the activity is low, but those photos I posted are exactly what it looks like to the naked eye.
Anchorage has a lot of light pollution making viewing very difficult unless you leave the city.

I don't know why but that is the scariest fuckin thing I have ever seen. I have this knot in my stomach. If I saw that in person for the first time I think I would have a fuckin heart attack..like really the world is ending right fucking now!

A friend of mine tells the story of a Christian dude from the south that went camping with him. I guess the Aurora started going crazy and the guy just dropped to his knees and started praying, because he thought Jesus was returning :lmao:

    i had the same "O M G" response...

but my thoughts were leading less toward the end of the world, and more along the lines of a party... with a dozen or so DJs spinning sets over the course of about 12-16 hours... with audio inspired by TommyTheCat ( http://hondaswap.com/computers-game...cause-hearing-loss-56k-may-crap-itself-82599/ )... and lights provided by nature :D

throw in a couple tents with space heaters to keep the hypothermia to a minimum... some snack and beverage vendors to keep everyone hydrated and full of energy...

Sounds like a techno version of the Talkeetna Bluegrass festival.

Nah, there's too much daylight in august.

Actually, Arctic Man would be a better venue for such an event.
