I recently got a 97 black 5speed civic hatch (sweet right!), only downfall is that i got the slowest motor possible with 106hp and 103ft/lb torque. I searched for a civic hatch in mind for doing a swap and got a really great deal on this 97 hatch, so i took it with civic type r running through my head. First plan was to get b18c5 and easy swap it in. Not the fastest car, but it would be pretty darn quick. But i live where road racing is absent and drag strips are available. So i'm now thinking of an h22a swap and fabricating a turbo kit for it. It would cost about the same since b18c5's are so expensive. I've been searching for as much info on h22 swaps into 6g civics but come up short. I know its been done somewhere before. I just need to know how hard it would be, and what custom parts i'd need other than mounts of course. If it comes down to it i guess i could just have my auto mechanic teacher junk fabricate me some stuff, and with enough time and a sawzaw anything is possible. Any info is valued.
    Thanks

People on this site seem to be a little anti-22...so I'll make this short. There are a lot of hidden costs involved but (in my opinion) its will worth it. I have an EG, but what is required for the swap is pretty much the same. Yes, you are gonna need custom mounts, custom axles, and convert to obd1 wiring. Its a tight fit, but even a tighter ride....

...and dont believe all the haters when they tell you it handles like shit. Yes you have to beef up the sus. but I can say that my hatch handles better with my 22 in it now (with mods) then when I bought it stock. But you said you have drag strips local, so autoX doesnt really apply.

    ....bottom line...I love mine....

Not all of us!! :D There are plenty of us who are very pro-H22 (and H23). My member title used to be "Resident H-Series Whore".

Glad to hear someone dispel the "H22 handles like shit in a Civic/Integra" myth around here with some firsthand knowledge.

Definately good hear some out there....h22 in the lude and acc are not looked down upon. But the civic-22 swap is generally jugded pretty harshly. I will never agrue that a B series in a civic will handle better then an H series civic, but its just simply not as bad as the myth is stressed. Yes...i did spend way more then I wanted to in susp. mods but if your gonna do it....do it right i guess. I know that I cant complain. Not to many B series around my parts can even keep up. Although import mods arent all that huge around here, the ones that do it...do it full throttle....

this site my help but not that much i giss
    http://www.hondatuningmagazine.com/tech/
about the handling issue, i think handling the civic with h22 is harder than b16, but i am ready to buy the cost :)
i had a civic with b16 tuned up by jackson racing charger, now i am planing to swap a h22 into a civic and tune it up with turbo kit. So i need all info you got about it.
Note that i am loking for the max hp with loeast cost.

they only hate on our h22 civic swaps because (1) we either out ran them, (2) they sunk a shit load of $$$ into a B18C5, and we still outran them, or (3)they go along with what the "norm" is and have no desire to do something different than a b series swap. i am not hating on b series swaps, i just hate when people say h22 civic swaps are worthless, or handle like shit, or they cant be done.. blah blah blah.. fuck the naysayers. my hatch handles great!!

for people that care about handling more than straight line speed (autocrossers, road course racers, corner carvers etc... ) the H22 sucks ass.... the handling is not terrible for normal driving but when pushing the car to its limits through corners the H22 will make the civic handle like a mid 90's ford taurus
think differently then come to CT with your H22'd civic we'll go to limerock and see who pulls better lap times

im not "hating" on H22 swaps ... im simply stating that they have their place... and for people interested in handling they are not a good choice.... for a daily driver with a focus on drag racing it is a great choice

I have a 98 dx 4dr that I am putting an h22 with a GT30 turbo. The car already has TEIN suspension, sway bars etc. etc. etc. From what I understand the H22 engine and drivetrain is aprx 200lbs heavier than the bB series. However you reduce weight when you remove the AC and you can further reduce weight by adding a CF hood, nose etc. Anybody have any numbers on the H22 without AC vs. b series with AC? I wonder how many pound I need to shed off of the front of the car to make it equal. Anybody have this info?

Yes, I am gonna be looking into a different motor in the spring. I was thinking B18, but I'd really like to get a H22. How much are you looking in spending on a H22 installed? I am thinking about asking some junkyards if I could get a front clip of one (either a teg or a lude).

In my opinion I would definately recommend running an H22 swap in a Civic.... I have ridden in both EG's & EK's with both B18C5/6's as well as H22's. I am by far more pleased with the output both in HP and torque of the H22 than that type R engine, especially when you run thru the prices.... I am going to build an EK hatch when I get back to the states, and I plan to do an H22, possibly supercharged but for a little while will run it all motor. But that is just my opinion...

Axles are needed. I have a 97 hatch with H22 and due to the lengh of the orginal axles, they push the knuckle into the tranny. check out ebay for axles
