did you watch it? What did you think?

Cliff Notes on Pro Tomb evidence given by the filmakers:

Tombs were only used for 100 years and ceased after 70AD

Bone box of Mary Magdalene has both Greek and Arameyic inscription (Mary's family spoke both languages) and refers to her as "Master Mary" (which matches some information that suggests she was actually a early Christian faith leader

The DNA in that box does not match the DNA found in the box of "Jesus son of Josef". While that doesn't tell us what they were it tells us that they were in the same family tomb and had no blood relation.

There is only one bone box ever found with that particular version of the name Mary (Mariamne). That spelling is very rare and is also the same spelling found on second century documents about her life that were suppressed by the early Christian church.

Christ had a brother named Josef, but he went by Josse (Josey). Josse is extremely uncommon to that time frame but is found in the Virgin Mary's genealogy. There is only one bone box that has ever been found bearing the name "Josse". It was found in Christ's tomb.

There was allot more. I would say after seeing it that while this isn't a slam dunk it certainly can't be dis proven at this point.

    Did you watch it

    What did you think?

This finding would completely obliterate christianity. So no, it wont ever be 100% either way. Christians wont believe it no matter what, and athiests are rejoicing that they've found more fuel for the anti-christian crusade.

    That is all.

the documentary did allot to show how the findings could co exist with belief in Christianity. Talking about the belief of the resurrection of the "body of Christ" and how Paul said that we have two different "bodies".

I didn't see anything that would overturn the belief in the life and resurrection of Christ. however, there is allot that if it's ever proven, would turn Christians belief in the unfoulability of the new testament (which was assembled around 100 years after the death of Christ by 3rd or 4th generation christians) on it's ear.

3 if you count the "critical look" speical which was actually laughable

They had two of the people involved with the documentary, two scientists with an opposing viewpoint, and a neutral party conducting the debate. Really a great way to go about picking through what is or isn't.

Unfortunately it became clear withing the first 2 minutes that the agenda of the host was do disprove any and all evidence presented by the research team, it was really 3 on 2 and after the theology buffs were brought in 4 on 2. It's still useful IMO as an illustration of how people ignorantly disregard things before they're given an opportunity to come to light if there is a possibly that the truth they may eventually present is inconvenient to their standard of reality

I wouldnt watch that shit. I know they would just make up something saying its Jesus and blah blah blah. Its a sin to be a christian and watch that IMO, you're doubting your faith.

thank you for proving my point

I would argue that the open minded pursuit of truth is what led to the reformation, what we know know about the center of the universe, & the siblings of Jesus. In 500 years of question, research and debate we have learned more about the actual history of the world and our faith then we knew for 1400 years before that. My jury is still out on whether this is a find or a miss find but to disregard it without research and study is ignorance and ignorance never leads to truth.

I think its funny that this tomb has been know about for almost 30 years, and most if not all archeologists dismiss the tomb. It wasn't until a film maker, someone who has no clue about ancient times and how things were back then comes in and decides he's found Jesus' tomb.

Most archeologists dismiss the tomb saying that where the tomb is, how the names are inscribed, and the type of tomb it is all go against the norm for people at that time.

Actually, IF they truly found the body of christ, then the salvation of Christians is nullified, since they believe in the PHYSICAL resurrection of Christ. This physical resurrection is necessary for salvation, since Christ's body was the sacrifice for all our sins, and he supposedly took all our sins, defeated sin, and rose again. Obviously, if his body is here, he didn't defeat sin, so we're all accountable for our sins, thereby making us unfit to enter heaven.

    That being said,
If James Cameron's TV special destroys your faith, or makes you doubt your salvation, you had none to begin with. What I'm trying to say is, that Christians are supposed to be openminded, but if they are told something that is contrary to their core beliefs, they will automatically assume it's false. Not exactly openminded, I know.
Think of it this way, If I came up o you with a title to your car, and told you that you didn't own your car even though you have a title in your name, what would your reaction be? Probably similar to a Christian who is trying to be convinced that his faith is bullshit.

That's a dangerous sentiment there (IF James Cameron Shakes your belief, you had none to begin with)

Honestly, my belief in god was shaken from something far less significant than that.

To say this is to push off any knowledge that even states otherwise. Like saying "If you believe Dinosaur bones are real, then you have lost faith in god"

That's a dangerous thing to say or think.

i wouldn't say the physical remains would necessarially take anything away from christianity

first time around he was killed and resurrected in his same physical body i believe... and i'm not sure exactly what happened with the physical body after that when he was to transcend into heaven

the son of jesus would be the interesting part to me

Like I said in the other thread, the process of being buried in a "bone box" was expensive and ussually reserved for the wealthy. Jesus and his father were carpenters aka not wealthy. It is possible that this is his tomb, but not probable.
