Modifying a Head Gasket

Well, I checked on the headgasket thickness and its .031" which I think will be cutting it close. That would give me about .028" of clearance between the piston top and the cylinder head edge. :( I just don't like that small of clearance. Any ideas? I could go with the cometic .040" thick gasket like I was.

What pistons are you using? .028 is pretty close but some engines can run that just fine(I've always seen anywhere from .025-.035 suggested) If it's aftermarket rods and lighter pistons, I'd say run it.

Also, the OE D16A6/D15B1/B2/B6 head gaskets should be thicker than the MLS gaskets.
