How Much Should I Budget?

You dont even absolutely need a picker.. We've done a couple swaps in my friends garage with only a floor jack,, some stands and 3 people. Put the jack under the motor, pull the mounts, drop the motor down on the jack, the extra two people lift up the front of the car while the person running the jack slides the motor out from under the car. Its redneck as hell but it works.

no need to do the upper ball joint unless you are changing out suspension. You just need the lower one. Heres a vid for, easy, quick, and saves your boot...

VERY COOL

I've never seen anyone do it like that! I was going to suggest loosening the nut a few turns and then take a 17mm socket and wrap tape so that the socket is held tight against the bolt that is a few threads loose. Then take a large hammer and hit up on the socket a few good times. I've never had that not work, and it doesn't damage the boot like a fork can, or the threads like hitting directly on the ball joint shaft does.

If necessary you can add a little heat, but I hardly ever have to

also if you are a budget and don't have all of the money, why spend money on things you don't need like a radiator. If stock is ok, use stock... only upgrade as needed, or where money permits.

Idk my swap seemed to run hot on hot summer days when I ran the stock single core. I now have a gsr radiator which works great.

Yea, that's what I was worried about. A bigger radiator is a small price to pay for peace of mind on hot days...I was planning on going with the dual core Del Sol radiator that way I can just bolt it in.

I just did a similar swap, and at the beginning, I too was set on the B18c1. But after talking about it with my shop, the pro's/cons, etc, I decided to go with an LS B18b motor. The money I saved getting that motor, I was able to get a lightened flywheel, really good clutch, a good header, short shifter, all bushings, and replaced just about every part that might give me trouble (timing belt, water pump, cap & rotor, all other belts, hoses, plugs, etc etc). I would have loved a GSR motor, or even a Type-R motor, but then again I also have to be realistic. This is going to be a daily driver, where reliability is key. Plus, nothing drains your car fund like a mortgage :( lol

I've only had the car 2 days now, and it's been awesome! Pulls nice and hard, and is a HUGE improvement over the D motor. No matter which B motor you put in, you'll be happy. Good luck with the swap!

Everything you did should be done regardless of the motor. And yes, any b motor will put a smile on your face regardless, however the more power, the bigger the smile. :)

look up radiator_doctor on ebay.. he sells the Koyo radiators that are perfect for what you need.. it comes out to $90 shipped... w/ warranty from Koyo

Start up warranty is only valid on USED, JDM & USDM motors and is unconditional when changing the following engine components:- spark plugs, spark plug wires (leads), rotor, timing belt, water pump and tension pulley. All of the previously mentioned have to be changed on JDM & USDM motors to become legible for the 100% start-up warranty.

I think I picked the wrong part for the tension pulley? I haven't ordered anything yet though.

why do you think you got the wrong tensioner??

why do you think you got the wrong tensioner??

I was more just curious if that was the part that corresponded with Hmotors saying that you needed to replace the tensioner pulley. I couldn't find any parts specifically called a tensioner pulley and this was the closest that I could find.
