guys its been years since i was into systems and my little cousin is wanting me to wire his up and thats no problem but heres the thing he has a 800 watt 4 ch amp. im gonna wire it for two 10s so im only gona need 200 watts on each sub, so do i just need to wire it like normal and just use 2 of the 4channels or what.

Below is my opinion (based on years of experience and assumptions b/c not enough info was given) I am guessing your concerned about blowing the speakers (this is why you only want to run 200watts per speaker) 800 watts......mmmmm....what is the name of the amp? Is it the size of a refrigerator?
800 watts at what percentage distortion? I am super sceptical that it's 800 Clean wattage.

Chances are......it is not 800 "clean" watts. But how you decide to wire it depends on the ohm of each subwoofer too. Two 4ohm speakers (I disagree with taco here) should NOT be bridged down to 2ohm. 2ohm bridged it like driving 75mph in 3rd gear at 5000rpm.....it can be done but not recommended. Especially if I am right about the quality of this 800 watt amplifier. I would run them either in stereo (leaves them at 4ohm) or series (ups it to 8ohm). I the speakers are 8ohm.....bridged down to 4ohm sounds good unless the subwoofers max wattage is less then 250watts.

lets not get too technical here. He's got an 800 watt amp. whether its a RF, JBL or Jenson it's what he has.

obviously the better quality will yield better power deliver and efficiency. wire them up how they can be wired up (hence my question to what kind of wiring options they offer) and go from there.

I'm gonna say they will sound like garbage at 4ohm stereo vs 2ohm (if possible) mono with the gain turned down. majority of the abuse is going to come from the user, not the amp.

Ive got a 1000 rms going to a C3 Memphis 10" and so far it's pounding hard :)

cant recall the name brand of the amp. but i know its name brand no knock off, and yeah im worried about busting a speaker. the speaker is 150 watts rms with 300 max i believe, here is a link on them Rockford Fosgate® - R1S410

lol so gain all the way down got ya. and last question will i need the Y rca adapter and plug in all 4 rca holes or just run 2 rca wires only.

depends on the input options on the amp
it should say on there how to run single input for running it bridged

just run single wires from radio to amp. sub output from radio. and just bridge where it says on amp. most do. and turn gain all the way down and adjust accordingly.

As CAFROG stated, you didn't provide enough information. A scenario out of the information you posted could be:

2 x 4 ohm 10" subwoofers that are rated at 200w max power dissapation.

A 800w 4ch amp that puts out 200w RMS per channel @ 8 ohm load. The amp is the real deal and conservatively rated. Bridged that monster will crank out 700w RMS into 8 ohms per bridged output pair and 1000+w bridged per channel into a 4 ohm load.

I would suggest not running the channels bridged unless you are sure of what you are doing. That will shorten the lifespan on the 10" subwoofers considerably at that level of overpower and could just outright fry them or batter them to a quick death. Overpowering the drivers wll not make the system sound any better - it will simply make it more prone to failure.

This is years of professional experience type advice.

i somehow doubt that the amp is putting out 200w rms x 4... thats a beast of an amp. the most common 4 channel amps that people have are usually more like 200 peak wattage per channel. bridging something in that class would be about right for the speakers he is wiring up, just start with the gain low.

yeah thats what im thinking, unless its a very good amp witch i doubt the watts wont be true. i will put my hands and eyes on it tomorrow and go from there. and get back with the whole rca part lol, thanks guys + rep

I wasn't trying to get too technical.....sorry if it came off like that.

I was just saying a amp that's output wattage is different than its description makes you re-think things.
Hell I saw two Linear Amps "rated" at 48watts a piece put out over 160+db's off two stinger 18"s :shrug2:
All amps have differences.

I know others have knowledge and back ground. I was simply stating how I would do it for myself.
I use to love car stereos and if I got nauseous then I knew the bass was nice. Now I'm old and like it much less intense.

Got me a JL Audio 8W3 for Xmas and I'm gonna give it a 250watt JL Audio amp. My theory has always been that its important to get close to the max wattage each speaker wants.

You can definetly go bigger and turn the gain down but this affects some bass at low volume b/c the low gain will be pretty low when at chill volumes. But one's taste isn't always similar to another's so their are many options in this case

What are the ohm rating for each subwoofer? Don't think I read that part yet.

Speakers look about ballpark for $79 specials with stamped steel frames. As the manufacturers spedifications rate them. 150w would be the absloute maximum power I would recommend driving them with.

How about a link to the amplifier?

As somebody alluded to above, the amp is probably the basic price range as the speakers ~$!50 and is incapable of anywhere near 800w continuous output. More than likely, bridged it will be in the ball park.

The only thing to look for is make sure the amp will handle a 4 ohm load in bridged mode. That's asking quite a lot and if it's a $159 amp without forced air cooling and gets driven hard in bridged mode with 2 x 4 ohm loads on it that may cause overheating problems and premature failure. Be sure and check for the impedance ratings on the amp.

well i know its an old amp, that he already had i will see him tonight or tomorrow and get the specs on it.
