Racing today.. Had a few trials and tribulations, I hope tomorrow goes a little smoother..

1st session, I forgot to put my oil cap on and got oil everywhere within the first lap, had to pit and clean engine bay, session missed.

2nd session, Car was misfiring and my battery light comes on. Come to find out my #1 plug wire had popped out and my alternator belt got shredded. Also discovered a side skirt flew off on the front straight.

3rd session, miss 1/2 the session because I had to go to NAPA autoparts to get a new alt belt, only to discover it was too long and had to go back for another.

4th session, first lap out my axle pops out and I need a tow from the hot pit to my spot. :(

To top it all off I had a bad ground on my transponder so none of my times were recorded...

I think I have everything sorted and ready for tomorrow. The car did feel great now that I have a proper alignment (had 1" toe in prior!! WTF!?). I love these Hankook C51's. Car is running well and not leaking oil anymore. woo hoo!

Here is a quick video of me trying to work my way through traffic. Not a very fast lap, but you get to see my cool new iPhone app for shooting video on the track. :)

Yesterday was a bit better.

Sessions 1-2 were flawless, car ran superb, damn I'm loving these tires! Look at my video I was pulling 1.5g's in turn 2 and I don't think I was at the limit yet. Just working up the balls to go faster.

I beat my personal track record yesterday. My previous record was a 2:06. I put down a 2:04.4 putting me in 3rd place for the day in my class.

Here is that lap.

Third session was going great, until my axle popped out again. I need to remove the axle and see why it keeps doing that. :\ I've never had this problem before..

worn out C clip in the axle end?

so what happens when the axle pops out?

lots of noise, knocking, fluid everywhere? i thought those cars had halfshafts bolted to the block.

they do, but there are still 2 axles on each side.

from what mike told me, the autozone remans he was running are known to be too short, causing them to pop out under racing conditions.

I don't think so, it was a new reman axle. This was the first weekend on it.

First time it popped out I lost nearly all power. I was able to make it into the paddock but needed a tow from there. I bet that was torture on my LSD. lol.

Second time it didn't come out all the way and the car was still making power to both wheels. However I was dumping trans fluid on left hand turns that was causing smoke. This is how I realized there was a problem, then I got a meatball flag and came in to find it popped out again.. :(

The halfshaft is only on the drivers side.

This is the speculation. I'll measure it once I pull it out.

So what was the axle issue?
It didn't appear to be too short, maybe 1/4"? It was hard to tell because the length can change on them by compressing them and the old one had a tear in the boot and lost grease making it move easier than the other.

I'm guessing more likely it was the set ring itself, or the location of the set ring not fully seating in the diff.

Either way, problem solved. :)
