Well I am about to quit smoking for the third time in my life and this time after talking to my doctor I am going to try Chantix. The first two times I was smoking 1-2 packs a day and quit cold turkey for as long as 9 months but went back to it when I started working my summer construction job. On those really hot days it was easier to smoke a cig or two during lunch break than try to choke down some food that always ended up making me sick from the heat and hard work.
This time I told my wife that I would quit and be smoke free in 2010. She has been on a health kick and has been trying to get me healthy as well. We have started eating better, going to gym and working on our existing health issues. We both are in my brother's wedding in July and this is my last vice that I need to give up. The wierd thing is though that quitting this time cold turkey has been misrable. I have been cheating a ton and I am only smoking a pack a week if that. So today at my physical my doc suggested Chantix and I said sign me up.
I have a couple of friends and family that have used it with success the only thing that worries me is the possible side effects. Has anyone on here used Chantix? I hear the dreams are way messed up and that some people get nausous off of it. I am not really worried about the depression/suicide thing as I don't normally get down. If any of you have any experiences good or bad I would love to hear them.
My quit date is next friday. after that I can start to work on my weightloss goal of 240 by July (down from 290) and to enter a 5K this summer. My Cousin is doing an Ironman race in Madison and he has inspired me to give it a try.
