Normally I would say that the LSVTEC is a waste in a Civic, but because you already have the LS engine I'd say go with it. I have never regretted doing mine.
As for LS pistons, they are not any stronger or weaker than B16 pistons. The problem is valve clearance and compression. The valve reliefes in the LS pistons are not big enough for the larger VTEC intake valves. And LS pistons yeild such low compression they aren't worth keeping. For in expensive go B16 or CTR pistons. If you really want cool pistons get some good forged pistons.
