What would be the best base engine to go from?: B16, B18b, or gsr?

Thinkin of gettin the b1 then puttin a b16 head on a little later.

Anyone know the aproximate cost for biulding the bottom end for a reliable ls/vtec?

What would you do? BTW-this is for a eg hatch

It really depends and what you want to do, and how much money you have to spend. If you want to go cheap, or turbo later id go with a b18, but if you have the cash and would still like to go turbo, b18c all the way.

i see people usin b16 heads on gsr's are they better or higher flowing than the gsr head?

and b1's have more displacement-more tourqe.

So whats good about the gsr engine? Why is it so good for turbo anyways?

im confused

the gsr and itr/b16 heads flow very very similar. the GSR head flows better lower in the rpm band and vice versus. We are talking about very very little cfm difference.

I say go with the GSR, you get 1.8 out of the box and you also vtec.

Even if you are going turbo this is a good way to go, yeah it might have a little higher compression but if it's tuned right you can take it up around 10 on stock internals. Plus you get better gearing.

no shit? 10psi on stock internals? thats badass

psi is shit.. you should ask for the turbo size, that is all that matters.

example..

14g turbo might only give you 300 cfm's at 10 psi... a t-62 might give you 600 cfm's are 10 psi.

Now you see why it matters the size, not psi?

Now my opinion.

Get the GSR, sell the head and get a b16 head and ECU. The butterflies are a pain in the ass, the intake bolt pattern is different, where as the b16 head can use the ITR manifold and shit, for an upgrade, the only upgrade for the GSR is an aftermarket one.

so your sayin just get the gsr for the bottom end and get a b16 head? is the bottom end really that good? b18b1 has more displacement but are the gsr's internals better or what?
and if i plan on using aftermarket internals anyways is the gsr the engine i need?

the gsr has a crank girdle and i think block guard ( i know it has the girdle, not sure on the block guard).. so in reality, its a stronger block.

Gsr swap is a lot more expensive than a b18b1.

I dont want to spend all that money just to take all the shit out of it and biuld it.

If im gonna put a different head on it and biuld the bottom end by getting pistons rods and all that wouldnt it be better to get a b1and find a b16 head? or gsr is still better?

still the best base engine would be b18c.

i pretty sure the gsr doesn't have a block guard. Z10 does make a nice block girdle.
