i wanted to see what everyone thinks about the different flywheels on the market. i'm going to be changing my clutch out, while i'm doing that i was going to resurface the flywheel as well and it's going to cost me $100 so i figured i would look into an aftermarket flywheel.

what i want from you guys is the following:

1. manufacturer / which model / weight
2. why did you chose this particular one?
3. where is the best place to purchase it/what is the general price?

i'm considering getting the ACT ProLite one cuz it's 8.8 lbs, it's in stock at the place i got the quote from, and it's cheap...$255.
i had one guy tell me that a 12lb flywheel would be better but he couldn't explain to me why.

would anyone recommend a 12 lb over a 8 lb ?

I'd think there are two reasons you'd want a 12-lb flywheel:

1. You're planning on using it for a turbo engine and don't want to "outrun the turbo".

2. Streetability. For inexperienced drivers, it's tougher to launch a lighter flywheel-equipped engine.

Your engine getting faster up in revs means more exhaust faster, and what drives a turbo? exhaust. This is another internet myth, you cant "outrun" a turbo by making the engine rev up faster. The turbo will spool quicker and it will be more responsive.

So the Jun 4,6 KG enligthed on the border is too much for a turbo?
The engine cannot burn completely air/fuel without this weight?

I've heard that a Turbo gives maximum boost "under charge"..

My english is..

I don't know he word to describe it..

In this case i suggest Jun Super light aluminium flywhell..

Give a look on TakaKaira :D

are you telling me or are you just saying the Jun one is better suited for a turbo application?

also, does anyone know if "TakaKaira" has a website?

I had an aasco 8.8 flywheel on my N/A B16a in a CRX. I thought it was a little too light because my idle would drop sunstantely when coming to a quick stop. Almost killing the car. I repalced it with an ACT 12.5 lb unit, and I like it much better. just my .02

I'd agree with you to a point, but the turbine needs time to spool, and then you need time for that compressed air to reach the intake manifold, etc. When I say "outrun the turbo", I mean that you're not spending enough time in each gear to take advantage of the boost. You're shifting before the turbo has time to reach its maximum output. For the same reason, a closely-geared tranny is not always good for a boosted setup. The longer gears are better for a boosted setup.

Edit: To try to better explain: Just because you're at WOT does not mean your turbo is at its maximum output. There's still time needed to get that turbine spinning as fast as it should. Most people know this as "turbo lag". Sure, you can cure the problem with a smaller turbo, but then you won't be able to run as much cfm's through your engine.

HHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAarrrrrrgggggggghhhh!!

Don't you know Takakaira.co.jp?!?!?!?!?!!?!??!?

NoJoke mode on: I Think Jun SUPERlight Flywhell is the most enlighted, so it maybe don't fit well a turbo..
But on an N.A. setup it works VERY well /NoJoke mode off

the site doesn't load right. it's keeps timing out.

does anyone have anything to say about the ACT StreetLite and ProLite series flywheels? i'm going to end up getting one of the ACT flywheels.

I had zero problems with idle drop on my b16 equiped fidanza, I always recommend it, period from personal experience..
