Regardless... somebody spent 3 times the cash then.

Ahh ok. I just knew that the Target edition eees were going for a pretty good price and with 8GB of space. I was looking at getting the eee 901 20GB for $360 shipped. After months and months of random research and playing with different models in stores, I think it might be the best one for me.

Not a bad price at all. I searched around myself, I didn't want to spend over 400 for a new laptop after my 700 dollar laptop got fried.

This one cost me 350 for 8gb, 1.6ghz, 9" screen, etc.

I bought a mini-mouse for it for 30 bucks, and a 30gig pocket size HD with power over USB for it on ebay for 35 bucks. I love this little mini thing, fits what I want it to do perfectly.

I'm basically building myself a mini-home network as well. I have my desktop on my tv, and I have a tower which I want to build into a server with a minimum of 500 gigs of storage space. (Total storage space I have 228 gb between the 4 harddrives I own). The server will just store everything so I can access it when I'm home, or upload it to my LP when I leave town.

Ah cool. I've got my Windows Home Server to run all my data, then I have my tower, Katie's laptop, a Hackintosh and my TV PC which doubles as my LAN box. I still don't know if I can justify a netbook, but it's going to depend on how much I'll be traveling the rest of the year. I'm leaning towards the 20GB SSD eee because it'll last longer on battery and not have a clunky hard drive- then shove a 16 or 32GB SDHC card in it for more storage. 30+GB is more than enough for on-the-go usage.

I remember getting all excited when I finally upgraded my computer to where it would run windows instead of DOS.. But it didn't have space for anything else, windows took up the entire hard drive with like half a mb to spare . And I still did most of my stuff in dos, because thats what I knew..

I remember being piss off about windows and refusing to leave dos. now I can't remember any dos commands.

I started out on a Commodore 64 at 5 years old which is what I think broke my brain when it comes to software design... Who was it that said 'Whoever learns BASIC as their first language will never be able to code in a proper language for the rest of their life'? It's damn true. :D Now I'm a hardware guy.

:werd:. Dialup modem init strings, msdos.sys, config.sys, setting environment variables in autoexec.bat to get your sound card working? Those are all distant memories that I would have no idea how to do anymore. :D How far we've come, even Linux is simple compared to the brainache I get when I try to remember that stuff.

Nice.

I'm thinking about picking one of the cheapo asus that just came down on price because the 10" model is coming out.

I currently have a working dell 700m that is 12" and has a cd drive though and works great.

You also spent twice or three times on yours than I did. ;)

damn dude, I just bought a laptop with a 190 gig hard drive and spent $500 total with a case, mouse, external dock for the hard drive from my old desktop, and some other doodads and knicknacks. Did you shop around at all?

I love ya, James! :D

Seagate came out with a 2TB hard drive a few weeks ago.

I did shop around, various trips to best buy and hhgregg, etc... but like I said I didn't want to spend over 400 on a laptop. ;)

My brother and I went to Office Depot to ship some stuff, they have a 1TB harddrive for $110. I'd love one but don't need one.

You say that now, but when you get one the world of bittorrent and porn opens up to you and soon you're having to manage that meager 1TB.

Speaking from experience :O
