ECS just annouced a really innovative product. Now you can buy an Intel motherboard and move to a 939 if you decide the intel sucks. all you need is an add on card. its additional $45.

thats cool.

eventually, i think all chips will be interchangable... its only a matter of time before the mother board mfg's do it to cut costs of making two versions
 
It's pretty old news.

Anyway, as the main CPUs take on more of the duties that used to be run with the motherboard (memory controller, I/O etc), chipsets and board designs won't need to be very CPU specific anymore. I guess it's come full-circle... AMD started out in the consumer CPU market by emulating Intel, everything split for a few years after the Pentium series, and now it's all merging again.
