My temperature gauge not reading

i was outside today and notice that my temperature gauge wasn't workin' at all. i never really looked at it except for today because i changed the oil. what could possibly be causing my gauge from working

bad gauge
bad wiring
bad temperature sensor(most likely this)- under distributer area has one wire going to it.

dumb question but did you let it warm up?

If your theromstat is stuck open and you live in a cold area, the car may not be able to come to up to operating temp at all. How old is the thermostat?
