Active X -- A software technology developed by Microsoft that allows programmed capabilities or content to be delivered to Windows-based personal computers via the World Wide Web. Active X is notable for a complete lack of security controls; computer security experts discourage its use over the Internet.

basically, an active -x control (is useless... but anyway) is when you get those "Are you sure you trust this guy... blah blah... they are/are not digitally signed... etc" pop ups before installing a plug-in of some sort... usualyl laeden with spayware.

go get the commet cursor or something gay like it, and you'll see it. lol

hotfix? can be 2321311 things...

if its a window's hotfix, leave it.

i say click on the remove button, and see what pops up.
if it immediately removes, it was trash.
if it is something legit, you'll get the next next next uninstaller and get to see what its for, which you can cancel out of...

a hotfix is just another word for "patch"

OS = linspire 4.5
browser = Konquerer ?.?
pop-ups = 1 per day from hondaswap (FU Brian)

even porn sites that would usually have you hit with so many pop-ups you almost have to unplug your computer to stop them, dont give me shit

winblows = :thumbsdown:

lol, at work i get a pop up EVERYTIME I COME TO HONDASWAP. At home i get my one...i used to not get any, but i felt bad for blocking your ad service in my hosts file. Thats how much respect i have for you B. I allow you to hit me with a pop up.

Ok, I got FireFox now. Hopefully this will help. We had a friend come over and take a look at my computer. I guess I didn't have a firewall, my thought is because I was using the school's network last year, it got disabled. So now I have a firewall too. Now I just need to get rid of this fucking WinFixer that comes up every time I get on the internet. Don't know if it comes up with FF yet. Does FireFox have the Google toolbar installed? Just wondering if it's not included, should I dl it?

Well, first I'd have to know what the host's file is, and what that means. I'm not very computer-savvy, so I don't know what all this stuff means. Care to explain a little, I might be able to get some computer knowledge out of this thread. :mrgreen:

old school intermute, which became adsubtract, kicks ass, I don't even see the 1 per day hrom HS
