yep! i love trucks like this, my grandpa has a '55 that i am in love with, and have been since i can remember

looks sic bro! did you order the new Airlift Dominator bags? those are badass and its what im going to run on my project 98 Ranger. dont forget to do a leak test on that back half you built to make sure you dont have any air leaks. and holy hell i just noticed how huge that notch is. progress is going good man and i cant wait to see more!

I wonder if anyone uses the frame rails as the airtank.

Most things have been done before, but I think one of my personal favorites was the bags that inflated sideways and the truck lifted last year at Dropt Out.

I did get the dominators. I found them new on ebay for $175 for 4. I'm getting ready to weld in the front frame clip.

I will leak test it before I drive it.

The notch isn't as big as it looks when you take into consideration the fact that it starts from a frame section that is flat on the ground. Generally the frame of a truck has already kicked up and is off the ground about 4-6" in the rear before the notch starts. It's 17 3/4" from ground to the underside. On 27" tall tires the top of the 9" is 14 3/4".

I left 3" so I could go with a taller wheel/tire if I ever wanted to. It should fit 24s with really small tires....just in case. ;)

Ok time for school bitches. Today's lesson is about installing a late model front clip on your old ass frame...

First, after taking copious measurements, pacing, smoking several Parliament (lights), taking more measurements, hammering some spots, and repeating the above process several times, with the front clip mocked up, you are ready to weld:

Then, when it doesn't lay flat because the engine crossmember sits too low, which you acknowledged long before you welded anything, you will have to Z it up several inches...in this case 2 5/16":

Now, this looks really sketchy, but don't worry. There's a solution...plating!:

So I whip out my trusty plasma cutter and make a pair of these:

Then I clean up my welds so the plates will lay flat against the frame:

Then you weld the fucker on. Don't worry about super clean welds. They are all going to get ground down anyway (I didn't as you can see):

Then you have to do something about that gay part that hangs down, so, you cut the fucker off...well really just cut a wedge out of it, hammer the bottom up, then weld that shit together too:

Now this thing is fuckin' hhhhammered:

As you can see there is plenty of ground clearance now:

In case you were wondering I am not done plating, prepping or cleaning the frame. I still need to finish plating and reinforcing the Z as well as several other crucial areas.

I have about 3 full days of work left on the frame alone before I can start building the rear suspension and my new radius arms as well as all the various crossmemberage. I am thinking of getting the fucker powdercoated but I'm not even remotely sure what the price would be. I have to make a few phone calls...

I like how you retained like 18" of the original frame, lol.

In retrospect, it was kind of a stupid idea. but oh well. After plating and smoothing and transitioning, it will look like one awesome ass piece of steel.

Fuckin' shaved bitches!...no more pictures until the whole frame is done and in primer

Nope just working my balls off trying to get as much done as possible. It's been tough lately with so many other commitments. I have a few updates coming up soon! The frame itself is almost done and in the final prime. The primer on there is just a self-etching type for bare metal.

I picked up some new parts and will be starting chassis soon. I also applied to Air-Zenith for compressor sponsorship so we'll see about that too. Hopefully they grant me at least a partial sponsorship.
