I got the axles in last night, got everything hooked up, and got pissed at the coolant dripping in my eyes when I was working on the right side of the trans getting the front axle in.
I thought, "I'll just tap the freeze plug in a little bit, and maybe it'll seal again" and tried it... Nope.
Coolant came pouring out, as the freeze plug went into the block.
Good thing I bought that bucket at NAPA earlier in the day. After it stopped draining, I grabbed the freeze plug with a pair of pliers and jhanked it out. It came out, along with some serious chunks of what I can only assume to be sand, rust, and flakes of jelly doughnuts. Yummy.
Then I worked on getting all of the chunks out I could... Lots of chunks, goo, and general nasty-ness. That's probably why the previous owner put a 3-core aluminium radiator and two 120W fans on. lol.
Apparently I don't have any of my large sockets in the garage yet, so I had to use whatever I could find. Best freeze plug install ever:
Now I just have to fill it up with ATF, check the oil level, bleed the cooling system as much as possible, and figure out how to safely get it off the jackstands.
EDIT: Oh, yeah, and I have to get the hood back on.
