    reading in CNN today:

Sheriff's offices in several west, northwest and north central Ohio counties closed roads to all but emergency workers Wednesday morning, many extending bans that began Tuesday; anyone else caught driving could be arrested.

What the fuck man. Ohio, New Jersey, New York, California... why do these states suck so bad ?!

is this in relation to the snow storm? yeah, that doesn't make sense then. what grounds would that be for arrest? "i'm sorry sir, don't feed your wife and children because theres snow on the ground"

sounds almost like marshall law to me???

yeah. there was a blizzard warning for eastern Indiana and western Ohio yesterday. had wind gusts of 35 mph and lots of snow causing huge drifts. the roads really sucked...hell they still suck today.

Um I don't get why you are getting worked up over this.....I am sure the chances of someone actually being arrested is slim to none. The way I see it is this - what is the difference between this and the roads being closed for damage from lets say a hurricane or tornado? They do it all the time for safety reasons. Hell lets even compare this apples to apples what is the difference between this and roads closing in Colorado like they do all the time? I am sure the reasoning behind this is the safety of the idiots that go out and get lost/stuck because they felt that getting a pack of gum was life or death. I have no problem with roads being closed.

Warning people is fine. When make "safety", "Law" you become a nanny state. Basically you aren't allowed to take care of yourself. Massachussetts is like that too. They make stupid shit illegal because you can possibly hurt yourself doing it.

    Hey, life ain't safe.

And in Colorado they close down roads that are impassible - like even if you had an M1 Abrams. For the most part, the rocky mountain patrol stops you and inspects your survival gear for the trip. If you have the stuff necessary, they mark you down and alert the next station. If you make it, you're ok if you don't they send a team. A general rule of thumb is to pack supplies for at least 3 days.

That's cool. Just shutting down roads and telling people to stay home is ok. But making it illegal for people to go out is plain wrong. If CT ever did it, I would go out just to spite them. I'm from areas that have WAY worse snow than this, or anything that Ohio has to offer.

it's nanny but when people do 70 on ice, crash, and the sue the state for not protecting them what do you expect them to do?

I expect them to throw the cases out of court. States have liability clauses, and those clauses are very clear. State bar steps in.

well if you were over here in the snow storm then you would know why they told people to stay off the road. there was less than a 1/4 mile of visibility and white out occurances. they were just looking out for the safety of the people is all.

    That's what Nanny states do.

Jesus, I'm not freaking out because I'm paranoid. I'm pissed off that a state can or has declared that you must not do something. It's not right, dammit.

This is one of the big things that divides the political views in this country. Libs have no problem with it "Well it's for safety". Cons have a problem with it because it's someone telling you what to (or not to) do

What part of 12" of snow with 3 foot drifts do you not fucking understand? Ohio got slammed just as hard as we did. I shovelled half of my parents driveway this morning. All 12+ inches of it. It's 12:40 here and the roads still are not completely clear.

they aren't going to arrest anyone.
its just to scare people off the raods.

hell this morning on the news, they said 'state police are too busy with all the accidents. If you've been in a minor fender bender, just exchange information and file a police report later to allow the cops handel the more serious crashes.'

wtf kind of BS is that?

ALWAYS get a cop on scene, no matter how small. it will save your ass in the long run.

even better, make a bunch of blanket statments you have no intention of enforcing, that should make people respect law enforcment!
