I don't know if you are aware of this, but George Washington was a very prominant freemason. And while in his public life he did attend church, being a freemason denies superstision (christianity) and values only factual knowledge (more of a scientific worldview). Beyond that such prominant signers as Madison, Franklin, Jefferson, and most other educated people of the time are counted as either deists or unitarians.
I don't mean to turn this into a religious argument thread at all, nor am i intending to really offend you personally with this, but you are what is wrong with America and why people like W can be elected into office. Have you ever researched the religious history of our "founding fathers"? Or have you simply closed your eyes and believed the lies that the Christian right of America promulgates? Were you to research our history (and the history of philosophy) you would find out that many of our idea as a nation are based on the works of Hobbes (leviathan, of civil goverment) and montesquieu (the spirit of laws). I dont despise you, I know that you are a product of our country. But never the less, it is ignorance and blind faith that are leading our country from its former position of democratic glory to down the road to facism.
