That was organic though. Hardcore VW people wanted custom parts.

How many soccer moms are going to be accustomed to having to go to a Town and Country specialty shop?

And how are recalls going to be handled? If that same Town and Country starts catching on fire by the hundreds a year from now what private shop is going to want to touch one?

chrysler already pulled a dick move with advertisers. Any ad spend that hadn't been paid, they AREN'T paying.

I blocked all american company ads.

boycott the big 3. it's in your best interest to let them COMPLETELY fail and not exist any more.

Ford was the only domestic "big 3" car company that did NOT take any government aid...

This. I'll look at a Ford because of the way they've handled the bailout situation. I probably won't buy, but I'll look. :D

I don't know why companies don't offer "plain jane" vehicles. Vehicles are way too expensive nowadays. I'd love to have a half ton truck extended cab with crank windows, standard 5 speed, manual 4X4, and A/C. That's it. It would be cheap and afforable. i have no need for any other junk that is offered in vehicles. I know other people that would buy like this as well. Honda and toyota and Nissan trucks are expensive.

Probably for the same reason Neilson numbers don't tend to match up with the real world either... They try and get an 'average' section of the population in situations like this, to study their habits and ask what they want. Strangely, it never fits with what the true population wants. So cars end up overloaded and expensive, and great TV shows gets canceled while the crap gets 700 seasons.

Louis CK got canceled before the first season ended, but Flava Flav got to scam on hood rats for multiple seasons.

Speaking of Louis CK, he was doing male nudity before it was the "in" thing to do. Do I understand why people find it funny? Nope. But Louis CK did it first.

As for the car companies I would say Ford is the most plain Jane out of all of them. Although out of all of them Lincoln is the only brand I would drive. My sister's MKX is nice. But I would never buy a "performance" domestic.

because of Ford not taking the federal aid, is one of the reasons why i just bought a 2009 Ford Focus a month ago. because Ford did that showed me as a consumer that they are responsible and able to handle their own finances and that they didnt need the US Gov't to bail their asses out unlike GM and Chrysler. besides....ive always been a Ford man.

That sucks. I own a Jeep.

Luckily jeeps are heavily backed by the aftermarket.. I'll be fine. Prices on everything are probably going to double though.

They don't build stripped down cars because the masses don't want stripped down cars, despite what a few people on a car enthusiast website think.

Most people view cars as modes of transportation. I drive about 35,000miles. I would never buy another car without heated seats. In fact the next car will most certainly have heated seats, heated mirrors, heated wipers, and if available at that time - cooled seats so I can sit in the car in my suit in the summer without getting swamp ass.

Honda builds commuter friendly econo cars because that is what sells in mass. What sells in mass is cheaper to produce, therefore large econo car companies actually have better profit margins (and as a result are more profitable. share holders say cha-ching, thank you.) than ultra-exotic car companies or any kind of specialized car manufactuer (in general).

If you want cheap and stripped down, there's already a car manufacturer for you - Kia. Even Kia's followers have demanded modern conveniences such as power everything.

If my phone can manage my email, my calendar, surf the web, play music, tell me the forecast for the next week, serve as a modem, etc., etc. than in 2009 I expect quite a bit more out of my car in terms of modern conveniences.

This is just my opinion but I believe the car sale statistics support my conclusion. The WRX/Evo were some modern takes on stripped down cars to sell to the masses, that have since been watered down to capture more market share. SRT-4 didn't make the cut either.

GM, Ford, And Dodge build stripped down cars. Go buy a company truck. They don't have shit besides 4x4, a cd player, and vinyl bench seats. Why? Because have some.

And to the above. Nielson brothers are as accurate as you can get in sampling. They have a phenomenal model for statistics. Their sample size is humongous to draw a popular conclusion with a very good confidence interval.

Well, lets compare this to people who buy older used cars. Many people may want extra features, but can not afford it. There's many people who want new and safer cars but the prices are too high for them to afford; so they buy older used vehicles. IMO, this is a good target; sell stripped down cars that serve a simple purpose, "transport". Perfect for teens, low-income families, people looking for beaters with a warranty, etc. Don't make it bland, try to actually make it look nice and reliable.

Examples are everywhere. Why did they buy a Civic when they could have got a more comfortable and larger Acura?
