*UPDATE*

Purchased a motor today. It is a 351 (5.8) out of a 1993 F250. It has decent factory numbers.

I will give it new front and rear main seals, a new oil pan gasket, and new valve cover gaskets.

I am also going to remove ALL the emissions shit and anything else I deem unnecessary. I really need to clean this thing up. It has s split plenum so I'm going to build a badass dual intake system for it.

The alternative is to scrap all the EFI shit and get a carb and a new manifold and dizzy but then we're talking spending $700 on a $300 motor that runs well already. I can get creative and tuck/discard enough of these wires to not make it look offensive.

Check out the rat's nest of wiring. It's not sexy yet but it will be:

This entire crate is full of wiring. It's the entire body control/engine control harness:

ugh

The most bonus thing is that it still has the aluminum accessory cluster on the front with A/C compressor, PS pump, and alternator. So there are three otherwise expensive parts that I don't have to buy. Plus I can use the body controls harness to update all the wiring that I ripped out for lighting, HVAC, etc.

If your going to be sand blasting on the body it self, I've heard of people using sugar to blast so it doesn't really tear everything up but keep its smooth still. Plus I've heard of people using sugar for sandblasting aluminum wheels. Just an idea I guess.

Btw I love where this thread is going. Subscribing is in my future.

I had posted the pictures but they didn't stick for some reason so here is the big gay motor I got:

now why didnt i think of that.. i made work harder for me by sandblasting aluminum wheels w/ sand.. bead blasting would be best

what color are you going to paint it? please tell me you aren't doing a full resto just to flat black it.

if its ok for this , then its plenty ok for a 57 Ford truck

why not?? Satin black looks amazing on a straight body

because it's played the fuck out.

that ferrari was probably one of 3251344513445 RED ferraris. they painted it to look different than the rest. if he shoots his ford with a great paint, by just having clean paint the truck will be different than most.

Sub'd cuz Ive loved F100's since I got mine 5 years ago.

Thanks for the input. I probably will satin it with baby blue steelies with moons and wide whites. Why? Because I'm a sucker and it will look hot as shit. Also, I can't stand glossy paint that is anything less than perfect and I can't afford perfect paint. Period. I can afford to shave everything and do a bunch of other bitchin body mods like a big back window, and frenched lighting and shit like that.

Anyway, on to bigger and better things. I tried to get my 2x5 box tubing bent and the place I went couldn't do it so I decided to build more traditional rails.

Not as curvaceous as I had planned but I think the angular aesthetic will work well with all the other curvature I'm building into it as well as the natural curvature of the fenderwells, hood, windshield and cab shaping, etc. I got all the pieces cut, one set sanded, prepped and welded, then mocked up.

I'm going to grind the welds, cap the ends off, weld in some 1/2" npt bungs and pressure test the rails. If they hold to 300 psi I will use them as my air tanks. They are each about 4 gallons.

Here's what I accomplished today:

Oh, and more about satin black. It may be a little played out, but so were Hondas, and they have been dying out for years.

I like it and will do it whether it's played out or not. Shit comes and goes but I like what I like.

Anyway, tomorrow I will assemble the other rail and get them both attached. Then, I have to clean up the 9er and get it centered and tacked up and then I can finally build my ultra badass 4 link.

I'm not even completely sure what that means so I know that I won't.

It was actually my wife's idea. She likes black. She thinks it will make it look mean, which it probably will. And the baby blue was her idea too. It will probably come out looking like my Ranger but older and uglier. That was satin black with a blue/white/black interior.

God I'm such a one-trick pony...
