unless your friend is law enforcement there is no way he bought a 17" barrel shotgun

My bad, it was 21". I knew it was the shorter of the run of the mill 870's, but couldn't figure out just how short. I only know of the 28" variety.

With Ron Paul not running, we're back to voting for the least evil candidate, not the best candidate. :(

And even though I disagree with much of his platform, that person is Obama.

The only two things I can think of off the top of my head that I agree with him on are that he's for net neutrality, and for legalizing online poker. Not much, but the results of any other current candidate in the white house are frightening.

who said ron paul isn't running? he so definitely is. he's just not leading the polls or getting a bunch of media attention.

he won't run as an independant and his chances of getting a nomination now are worse than ever

So basically, we are right back where we were in 2000, and 04. I love America. The right candidates never have a chance, and people are always to vote for the lesser threat. What happened to the kind of presidents like FDR, JFK and Lincoln?

oy. i give up on you people. i know all about 'getting your hopes up' and am pretty clear on the definition of the word 'futile' but i don't want that to be the reason i did nothing, didn't vote my conscience, didn't speak out against our eroding system when given a historic chance.

Message from Ron, dated 2-8-08 on the site:

Whoa! What a year this has been. And what achievements we have had. If I may quote Trotsky of all people, this Revolution is permanent. It will not end at the Republican convention. It will not end in November. It will not end until we have won the great battle on which we have embarked. Not because of me, but because of you. Millions of Americans -- and friends in many other countries -- have dedicated themselves to the principles of liberty: to free enterprise, limited government, sound money, no income tax, and peace. We will not falter so long as there is one restriction on our persons, our property, our civil liberties. How much I owe you. I can never possibly repay your generous donations, hard work, whole-hearted dedication and love of freedom. How blessed I am to be associated with you. Carol, of course, sends her love as well.

Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get. But with so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter. Of course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican party, so there will be no third party run. I do not denigrate third parties -- just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the ballot-access restrictions on them. But I am a Republican, and I will remain a Republican.

I also have another priority. I have constituents in my home district that I must serve. I cannot and will not let them down. And I have another battle I must face here as well. If I were to lose the primary for my congressional seat, all our opponents would react with glee, and pretend it was a rejection of our ideas. I cannot and will not let that happen.

In the presidential race and the congressional race, I need your support, as always. And I have plans to continue fighting for our ideas in politics and education that I will share with you when I can, for I will need you at my side. In the meantime, onward and upward! The neocons, the warmongers, the socialists, the advocates of inflation will be hearing much from you and me.

Sincerely,

Ron

Nothing is over, but to quote the magic 8-ball, "Outlook not so good".

Nothing was futile, we're not doomed, or giving up completely, either. Ron Paul may have been the spark for a whole new generation of politicians. If anything, they'll take the ideas with them as they grow up, contribute to society, and take offices.

RP video dated today. 4:08 sums it up. and at the end (starting around 10:30) he suggests a march on washington before the convention to show how many people support the constitution, not the politics; to show how many people want america to be the country we dreamt it to be, not the country it is becoming. if that really gets organized, i'm going. this isn't a football game, we shouldn't just turn the damn tv off because we think we already know how it's going to go. we need to stand by our beliefs. if you believe obama's your man. go rally for him. if you believe ron paul's your man, here, i saved you a beer.

What happened to the kind of presidents like FDR, JFK and Lincoln?

See, this is EXACTLY it.

FDR, JFK, and lincoln were all horrible presidents. (i can see steve looking for the reply button already!)

let's see how these 'great' presidents fucked up America.

FDR:

took us off the gold standard (so basically it's his fault for national debt in the first place... he printed money with no backing to 'help' the economy, when all that happened was inflation skyrocketed.)
The New Deal has pretty much set up our country up for the pile of shit we're in now with social security, and all the other big government policies that were supposed to be temporary but never removed because they weren't built with removal in mind in the first place
He might have been ok with WWII and all that, but his domestic polices were a pile of shit.

Did I mention he was a cocky bastard too? because he had to stay in office and break tradition, they had to make an amendment to make sure no other ass hat would do that again. You know you f'ed up big time if congress ratifies an amendment after what you did.

JFK:

"fuck" sums him up.

Really, what DID he do besides cheat on his wife and fuck Marlyn Monroe, fuck up relations with Cuba so we can't get a god damn decent cigar, and got shot in the fucking neck? he's popular for no damn good reason other than all the ladies of the era thought he was hot and he got assassinated.
"You're nobody 'till somebody kills you" -- biggie
Space program? hardly "JFK did it". NASA was around before him, and probably would've made it to space anyway with or without jfk doing nothing.

Lincoln:

The south had the right to secede from the union. Hell, in 1789, all 13 states seceded from the articles of confederation and took on the constitution with the same resolve -- that they could leave peacefully if the new document wasn't working.

So, technically, Lincoln violated our constitution for declaring war on a peaceful withdrawal.

Slavery? simply a by-product of the illegal war (sound familiar??) He wanted to hurt the south. by starting a rebellion of slaves, he used it as leverage.

So basically, we are right back where we were in 2000, and 04. I love America. The right candidates never have a chance, and people are always to vote for the lesser threat. What happened to the kind of presidents like FDR, JFK and Lincoln?

2 of them got shot.

he got shot in the head too. duh.

Jon Stewart is such an asshole tonguing pissant.

I do watch the Daily Show pretty regularly, but I'm actually going to have to agree with you. I much prefer Colbert to John Stewart. I like how Colbert has built up this character that he uses on his show, and he never breaks from it. And even though his character is supposed to be a hard-ass pundit, I think he's actually pretty fair about poking fun at everybody, not just conservatives.

And also, his shit is always funny.

With Stewart though, you can tell that he's unabashedly liberal, and that he's disgusted with anyone who thinks otherwise. Half of the time his interviews seem more like an actual political talk show then the satire that it's supposed to be.

Colbert > Stewart, any day...

with mccain in office, we will never be done with the war.
with mccain in office, we will see a rise in taxes, and even higher fuel prices.
with mccain in office, we will see more talk and no action on illegals.

I completely agree with you on the war and the illegals, and that's a big part of why I don't like McCain and would prefer not to vote for him. I'm not sure on the tax issue though, I'm thinking he'll probably try and continue the Bush tax cuts.

So in other words, we're fucked either way.

What I was saying in reference to JFK, FDR and Lincoln was not the presidents themselves, but the choices people had at the time to vote for. Elections were not the ridiculous media frenzy that it is today, and candidates could actually campaign without millions upon millions of dollars.

The lastest news is that Obama is running ahead of Hilary in the newest primaries, and that Obama would likely win the election if it were between him and McCain.

eh ... Obama and Hillary are socialist pricks ...

every commercial break last night during american idol he had something to say bout fixing the government to increase health care ....

FUCK THAT ... First of the problem is not so much with the government as it is with all the fucking idiots in america that are will sue over anything. Doctors have to charge incredibly large sums because of the fact that if anything happens whether in or out of there controll some dumbass is gonna sue them for malpractice for thousands of dollars.

Second the problem is with the Judical system actually letting these dumbasses win these completely ridiculous law suits.

third, If you got of your lazy ass and went to school and got a decent job and insurance you would have the money nedded. but no, They were taught there whole life that they can ride the government welfare and medicare Systems and not do anything, but still get the medical attention, that frankly, they dont even deserve.

All that Obama, or Hillary for that matter will do, is Increase taxes to take the Hard earned money of Productive citizens to keep the economic leaches alive.

I can understand a bit of government help for those seriously in need a few times. But i feel that there should be a limit to how much help you can get. If you want socialist government programs go to fucking Canada or Europe. People think "oh America the land of the free and home of liberty" yeah ... its free because people got off of there asses and got shit done. Freedom and liberty and happiness doesnt Just come to you. Stop trying to strip American citizens of there own liberty and right to there hard earned money because your a worthless peice of garbage.

/end rant
