lmao. I love Texas. My mom has been here (from Costa Rica) since the 80s and though she still butchers some words, she knows to speak english in a public forum.

time to throw him back over the border.

i fucking hate it when i go to court, and someone needs an interpreter and it takes 30-45 minutes for the judge to go over the rights because he has to pause every 5 words... if you are here, and able to get a license in this country you better fucking be able to understand and speak english. ugh i fucking hate it that these people have more rights than US born citizens!!!!

You have no clue how many times I have to hold my tongue when I hear someone speaking spanish here. I HATE the fact that they come to OUR country, and can't learn the freakin language. This is why I still think that anyone trying to cross illegally, should be shot on site. No exceptions.

I have no problem with people speaking their native language amongst themselves, but in a public forum it should be the national language. Especially after 20+ damn years.

Speaking English has nothing to do with crossing over illegally that is a different story all together.

For the most part damn near every Hispanic I know whats to learn English and anytime they have free time they try.

The #1 thing they're told when they try to talk with an English speaker so they can try and practice and learn more English is.

"Learn English or go home!" Since they just get shit on from the get go they learn to not say anything at all or to never ask questions.

I've worked in the food business for 10+ years in a pretty heavily populated Hispanic area (DC/MD/VA) So I've had my share of Hispanics both friends and employees, Americans straight up shit on them. Even the ones who have every correct document needed to be here. Many don't speak English even thought they know how to speak it because they already know before hand the person they're in front of already has a big F you on their mind and its aimed directly at them since they're dressed differently or have a different look then your North American born Hispanic.

It's a waste of time for them and honestly after being around them for a long time I see a whole different side of the debate and can easily agree with them in doing so.

Is there Hispanics who come here illegally and shit on this country? Yes, is their American born people who shit on this country daily, just check out your local paper. Hell, look at half of our gov workers..........

For the OP video, he was stupid for doing that, even more so when he clearly knows English.

Not sure how to break this to you but um...

North America does not have a national language. Some states do but only about half of them.

Let me rephrase what I said. What I meant was that I can't stand it when people that come over here, that know english, go about speaking spanish 24/7. What ticks me off even more is when people use the language barrier as a way to manipulate a situation.

I have absolutely NO problem with someone trying to learn english, and that in my book, shows they aren't just some lazy immigrant that came here, and wants to be spoon fed everything. And as far as us shitting on them, that goes back to the whole "We hate the race, not the person" idea, and that some of us have been so negatively affected by the Mexican/Hispanic race, that we view every single one of them with hatred. We don't necessarily hate the one person, but we hate the situation some of their race has created in our country.

I have no problem with immigrants from Mexico or where ever else coming here LEGALLY, but when they sneak in our country, and then get pissed when we treat them like shit, that's a whole different story.

No shit?! I don't mean it literally, but it is pretty much the de facto national language. And thank you invisible for the most obvious other point. lmao

Oh and my mom was part of the first generation of her family to come to the US from Costa Rica, and I cant say how much they got "shit on" by others because I wasnt there but every single one of them learned how to speak English. As did the rest of the family that came over later. If you really want to do it, you will. If you do, you know you'd be expected (though of course not legally obligated) to speak it in a public forum.

Yes I did mean to say North America. But, messed the no where in....

Point being, no where in North America has English as the primary language outside of a few states in the U.S. Canada is a bit closer with both French and English listed, but I don't believe either one is their official national language. Best of my knowledge the only country in North America that does have 1 national language is Mexico, and that's not English either

I know a handful of older Hispanics and Asians that came over back in the 50s/60s and they didn't seem to have it anywhere near as hard as they do now. People today see illegal this illegal that on the news day in and day out. Then you have people who are out of work because they're not willing to take the open jobs that are available since its *below them* yet Hispanics take them so it gives them more reason to bitch.

This country seemed to be a bit more open minded 30-40 years ago, now everyone forgets what this country was built on and that either their grand parents or great grand parents or great great grand parents came over here the same way. Plus for some reason every Hispanic is Mexican and every Mexican is illegal.

I hate seeing Spanish everywhere and labels in both languages. Where are my polish and french labels? I deal with immigrants a lot, a good part probably illegal. Some spanish the rest European. Every single one knows dollar amounts and the word cheap. Most of them do know more English than they lead onto, I am not saying fluent.
The things that piss me off the most about the illegals is that they undercut legitimate businesses by doing the work for rates that most people could not live on. A lot of them are sending the money out of the country. They use our roads and services without paying for them.

    just playing devils advocate here....

but perhaps this says something about our opulent and decadent lifestyles... they manage to live here on those sub par wages... all while sending the bulk of it home to their families

perhaps its not that people couldnt live on those wages, but that they couldnt live as lavishly as they have convinced themselves they deserve to

    just saying

    its something to think about

My wife has been here nearly 15 years...finding her speaking English would be a godsend. And she has a 4.0 in college.

Speaking, comprehension, conversation, all have different aspects in what communities need. She could tell you how to figure out common denominational factors for 89 of calculus 3 theories if there were such a thing...but she cant tell you how to connect New Haven transit to Central Park in English.

And I have about the equivalent of a kinder-gardener's language ability in Japanese... And I've been in Japan for 7 year's and married to a Japanese person for over 15 years...

Our own society is unfortunately at fault for why so many people do not end up learning English as a primary language. Most live in a household where they do not speak English, work with people that speak their native language and everywhere they go they are provided with alternate language options (civic services, retail, phone, etc). The fact remains that a ton of (legal) people can still make a decent living (and send most of it back home) while not having to learn another language. Existing legal immigrants who have came over to work and make a better life for their children and do so without having to learn English are really not the issue here.

What I have a problem with is the new generation and offspring of these people are not learning English or being taught it in an ESL class.

I understand if your 67 year old grandmother from Portugal cannot speak English. But if you come into my place of business at 24 years old - and being born in this country - and you need a translator; GTFO. It's not culture, its laziness.
