Integra Guy
I'm about to start my first ever LS-Vtec build. First Honda, first everything... very new to it all. I have a 94' Integra LS with a b18b1 obd1 engine. I have been doing assloads of research, but still have a few simple questions that need answered. Can I use a B16A head for this set-up and what type of ecu must I use? Also, I have read the "How to make a reliable LS/Vtec" article till I was blue in the face. Where can I find an OEM head gasket, how much is it, and which one must I use if I use this head? Is there a better gasket to be had? Down the road, this engine will be boosted with a turbonetics T3/T4 hybrid turbo kit. What pistons should I use for this since I am boosting down the road?, obviously I don't wanna go to high. Do I need a chipped ECU way before the turbo?, the turbo won't come for at least another year. Also, since I'll be driving N/A for a while, should I upgrade the injecters, fuel rail, or anything else with the furl system? Any other advice would be welcomed.

that is one huge paragraph. have you really done an "assload" of research? what kind of head do you need to do an ls/vtec?

where do you think would be the best place to get an OEM headgasket? really now. where would you get OEM parts? wait, do you know what OEM means?

already found the gasket... I was pricing everything else and just being lazy. feel free to answer the other questions. What research? are you serious? as someone new to this shit, i think knowing what parts work with what set-up is alot of research, wouldn't you think? if I'm gonna run boost, aren't there certain things that really need looked at?

I'm starting to wonder why anyone even bothers to build one of these engines. Unless you buy everything used for a hell of a deal and do the headwork yourself, own a machine shop, and have an assload of time, its the only way to do it and make out. Why not buy a type-r engine and add a few things like cams... even if you boost it, change a few internals or tune the hell out of it with low boost and be done... it seems like you'd get more of a value. My parts list already has a $6400 tag on it, without the goddamn turbo!... and thats without the tranny upgrade from an LS. At least if I bought a type-r engine swap, or even a gsr swap , the tranny would come with it for about 4500 or less for a gsr swap, with factory reliability... not guess and hope you tuned it right or picked a shop that knows what the hell they are doing. I thought the whole idea of this set-up was saving money?

Certain things do need to be looked at. This is a turbo LS/V, theres a few around. Just read through some threads and youll find the answers you need.

you just answered your own question. I personally wouldn't build one. i would just do a turbo ls and call it a day. put an itr tranny on it and you have a great setup for under $3000.

yeah, i was just hoping maybe I was crazy and there was some great reason why people build these things. Don't get me wrong, my price tag did include the best of all new parts, but I just want a fast street car... my tires don't need to melt off in a day or week. I've considered just boosting my LS. I've got 130,000 miles on the engine. Do I need to hone and sleeve it, or can I get away with running 7 or 8 boost with some crower 403s or something of the same? new valvetrain? fuel system?

the amount of psi is relevant to your tune. with a good tune, you can run maybe 14-20psi, depending on the turbo, and do it safely. you can run 8psi with a shitty tune and have it blow.

I Would keep The LS And Add LSD when your boosting high you lose traction on lower geared trannys.

At mid boost i was taring the tires off at 90 mph.....big smile on my face but not good for times.
