Sounds good. Just don't lose your job. That is the one and only reason why I have never had an auto project get to the finish line.

if you're girl doesn't want to go to the meets, leave her at home.
you could be off drinking/doing drugs/ banging hookers instead. if she can't accept your hobby, show her the door...
sure, it's been 8 years, but guess what, it's only going to get worse. get out now before you waste more of your life on a control freak

Quoted For Truth.

My brother dated a girl for a while who couldnts stand the fact that he'd put money into his 71' Nova and his 96' TA. He loved his cars and should have listened to my dad and I right there and gotten rid of her. Well he went and had a kid with her. And there went the TA. Had another kid with her and my dad made damn sure everyone knew the Nova was in his name and was going nowhere but his garage. Now theyre married and he can barely make it to a car show ever. I dont mean meets I mean legit car shows. I dont think he'll be trading in the Grand Am for a while.

:cliffs:
I love my neice and nephew, but damn do I miss that TA. Dont make the same mistake. Let her know youre into cars. Its not going to change. Get used to it, or get gone.

how amny of "us" have been or want to go to a HS meet? well thats a meet with cars........

i dont really want to go to an HS meet for the cars though...........well maybe clayton's Z.....but other than that....not so much.

:werd: there is a reason for an HS meet... we've never met each other, so its a good way to get to know whos behind the keyboard... local meets are the same fucking retards everytime

I'm gettin close to 47, Youngest of 9. All I've known is being around "older folks" and growing up on a farm always had a knack for breakin/fixin machines, weather cars or other. I even work with an older gent restoring his 48 Buick convertables or his dinner every week. And he's 87! You should see the Hershey or Pettigene(?) meets. Your girl would just die..
I told my wife (then gf) I'd either be: 1-at a junkyard 2-parts store
3- in the garage/back yard working on _______ or somewhere inbetween.
I couldn't understand when guys would tell of their weekend exploits pissing their paycheck away drinking. That's parts money!
My wifes dad used to run a twin turbo'd 73 vega turning 9's at Pamona, So she knows a life like that. That doesn't mean she's perfect, (she 'twice' has pushed on the clutch peddle when she was supposed to 'help' bleed the brakes..) But at times just easier to deal with when there isn't room for her car in the oversized 2-car garage or the 30x50 or on the extra cement pad by the shop. Plus she's pretty and smart!
Anywho, Just like that other person stated.. If she's that way now, LOOK OUT after the ring goes on!! It WILL be just like these socialists controlling every aspect of your then worthless life. It's better for her to do a little cryin now then YOU for the rest of your life. Just like that song from Meatloaf..

If i were you, I'd go 'searching' at a BIG car show/meet for a good woman that understands your passion. ("you don't catch trout in a mud hole") Remember, it's the man that is supposed to be the head of the house! It's just that we've had feminists/liberals running the show for so looonng now that boys don't know how to be a man, and they can't handle situations correctly. And NO role models worth anything..

Sorry for the long post, But you'll be happier unless you lay down the law and she agrees..

exactly right B!

im almost 30 and my girl could care less about my car. she doesnt mind taking a ride in it, but would never bother to come to the track or to a meet. she has no interest in it, but lets me do what i want. after reading what the OP said it makes me glad my girl doesnt nag me about my honda hobby.

i think that i will always have interest in hondas, and i think there will be a generation of 50-60 year old guys sitting around talking about import cars at car shows in the future. wait 20 years or so, youll see lol

See i can't believe a car guy would marry a woman that was either a) not interested or b) hated cars.

I married A and really have no problems with it. As someone posted above. She 'helped' me bleed the clutch by pushing the pedal cause my friend wasn't able to help me that day, other than that, if I'm in the garage, she's playing her MMO. No arguments. Im gonna be fair, i dont know how she'd react if i was down there all the time (like when i had the prelude), but i doubt the reaction would be either she plays her game or asks me to take a day off and chill and watch some TV with her.

When i go to car shows, the ONLY time she comes with us is when its a spur of the moment thing. Even then most of them are at a drive in that serves beer so she's happy as clam drinking a long neck with my friend's girl friends/wives while we're off talking to other people. That and at the fair, and there's beer at the fair too.

????.. Do you think she found this site, read it and killed him?

Well, maybe read it, got an insurance policy on him, waited 'til he was under the car and kicked the jackstand out..?

Hope not.

I'm 32. My son is almost 2. I still drive the S2k on a mostly daily basis. Talking to my wife, her commentary when I bring up selling the S is "no way you're selling that car!" She's absolutely not a car person, but over time I've converted her over to driving only stick (5 cars, no autos), enjoying lightweight cars that handle well AND can feel the road, and an appreciation for the uh... mindset as opposed to just a tolerance of it. She gives a little for me, I give a little for her. I'll go to poetry readings, go shopping for books, see weird independent movies etc.

As far as going to car meets, I don't think you ever outgrow them- you just move to different types as you grow older and grow up. In college, I used to go to the large 1000 car meets in parking lots where people would line up street races- but that got old quickly. To me, the people there were mostly high school kids or non-college bound people that spent every last dime on their cars with no thought of the future. While the races were exciting, the thought of getting caught really sucked, and the crowd really wasn't one I wanted to be with. I wanted to see real hardware- not B series swaps and junkyard turbos putting out 130whp on D16s that were leaking their guts out onto the ground every 5 miles.

The OGs on the site will remember how I used to race- no Hondas, just big V8 guys for playtime in my Civic. I never cared to tangle it up with the Honda guys- they were too slow. The same goes for the car meets. The people with the real serious hardware and the brains to know what to do with it typically won't come out to the street meets. You have to dig deeper to really find them. Track events, closed car shows, high end tuner shops after they're closed etc.

If anything, I've gone hunting for the more obscure talent and cars that you just don't see all the time. It's still the same thrill as going to the meets in college, but at a higher level and also in much safer venues. I guess my meets have grown up with me.

As far as the wife/significant other issues- if she "goes out with the girls" you're more than entitled to just "go hang with the guys." If she can't give a little on that end, or at least appreciate what you like to do even though she doesn't take part in it, you don't want to be in that relationship.

cant really relate to it... i've been into cars for a looong time, but never the car scene (meets and stuff)..

Same here. I've been to a couple of meets, and must say they're boring(to me). On the other hand, I find "auto events"(like racing, drifting, tractor pulls, etc.) much more fun and entertaining, especially with friends.

Tolerance and compromise. It's the basis for any relationship, female or otherwise.

If she can't be tolerant or compromise about the issue, tell her to take the Two Foot Express. Get to steppin' bitch.
