Do work
So I've been a stranger again, I know. Update on my life.

First and foremost, I found out the hard way that ignorance is not bliss with Penndot, and that the mail-forwarding form from the USPS does not include Penndot items. That being said, I have a suspended license, due to citations I got last summer when I wrecked the GSXR, and didn't respond because I didn't update my address when I moved, only filed a mail-forwarding form, got pulled over a month ago in the Jetta because I was going 5 mph UNDER the speed limit more or less, impounded the car, and yeah.

My dealership took possession of my car, and wouldn't let go until I could prove I had a valid license. It's suspended for 6 months, I took care of everything except for the actual serving of the suspension, which I'm doing now. Ended up getting fed up, being that I still had to make my payment, and insurance, and couldn't even look at the car in my driveway. Didn't even have it long enough to take pictures, so they said they could give me something as a payoff that I could take, and wouldn't have a payment or anything, one of the options was a 91 Civic EF. I said whatever, opted for the civic, even though I've been robbed, but I figured I had a 6 months suspension so that's 6 months of car payments that I can put into restoring the car, swapping the motor, building and boosting it, right. Hadn't seen the car, so I was prepared for the worst. I started talking about it to a couple of my close friends, and started talking about how much easier life would be if there happened to be a B swap or something in it, since that would let me pass up the step of switching to PGMFI, and I'd have at least a 5spd tranny instead of a 4spd, assuming it was a manual transmission. I don't have any pictures because they haven't dropped it off yet, but I went to see the car when I went to sign the paperwork, and I was in for a surprise. I didn't get to look close until after I signed, and I got worried when I saw 170k on the odo section of the paperwork. So I go outside, and whoever had the car before me, took damn care of it physically at least. First it's the blue color of older colors, but it's in great shape. Only rust is about the size of a quarter, on one of the rear panels. Inside, I found a manual transmission, that had a 5spd shift knob. I still wasn't sure, because it's easy to switch knobs. I popped the hood, and found a PGMFI, DOHC motor. Looked to be an LS, but the engine tag was dirty and couldn't read the code, so I assumed either a B18A1 or a ZC something. I found a towel, and cleaned it off, and it's a ZC swap.

Now here's my problem.

I'm doing this right. And doing it right the first time. Quality parts for whatever motor I may use, and I have at least 6 months and a garage, so I'm not rushed. I may pick up an ebay turbo kit, strictly for the other parts that are actually useable from it, like everything but the turbo itself. The motor will be built, a close friend of mine is a mechanic, actually the one who got me into Honda's, and has built himself a couple impressive EF's, so he's going to be giving me some help with the build.

Back to my problem.

First off, I don't really know how to distinguish between the different ZC swaps, I assume that it's the number below the ZC tag, but I don't know what it is offhand and won't know untill the car is brought to me.
Second off, I don't know how many miles are on the motor, and obviously neither does my dealership, but I know that it's not 170k.
Third, and my biggest problem, is that neither myself of my friends know jack shit about ZC's, what kind of parts they take, what the sizes are for anything, what it's compatible with, any specs, compression, literally anything.

I'm sure you can figure out where you guys come in.
Any insight?

P.S. I'll have pictures of everything as soon as I get it here.

ZC = single cam or dual cam

Single cam ZC = D16A6 clone (1.6 no VTEC) with a hotter cam, ~120hp
Dual cam ZC = black top (good) or brown top (not good), ~130hp

Everyone claims there's a ZC VTEC engine that's basically a D16Z6 clone, but I've never seen one.

SOHC ZC = all parts basically interchange with the D16A6
DOHC ZC = nothing really interchanges with other D engines except for pistons and rods, and even then you won't gain until you go aftermarket

:)

there is in fact a zc vtec its single cam

You already know everyone is gunna ask for proof, so why would you post a statement without any kind of proof to go with it?

Youre on the edge of negative rep.

I believe a couple of people on D-series.org have a ZC VTEC(also "D16A" IIRC). Not really hard to believe considering there's like 4-5 different versions of the D15B.

It's a DOHC ZC Black top. Is the tranny interchangeable with other D's? I'd like to pull the motor and replace it with either an A6 or Y7 boost that, I've heard ZC's are junk? I don't even know what they're out of.

I've heard people say the zc is junk, but since there are four different types of zc, you don't know which one their talking about. I know the dohc are great for power but the brown valve cover dohc has problems. The dohc came in early crx's in japan, we got a really good version of the zc here in the first generation Integra's d16a1 dohc with the best trans ever on a d block. 4.40 gears and equal length half shafts. Those trans will not bolt up to other d blocks because they don't have mounting holes for the intermediate shaft that integra's have. I would stick with what you have, blueprint and balance the bottom end with aftermarket rods, lower compression piston and boost away :)

Nah, ZCs aren't junk at all. They were the "top of the line" for each line of D series engine that they represented. The dual cam ZC was the best dual cam D series, the single cam ZC was the best single cam D series etc.

The transmissions are interchangeable- just make sure you use the intermediate shaft with the ZC transmission if you're keeping it- which I would recommend if it works. The ZC transmission had the best gearing too (close, even spacing) and the intermediate shaft helped to reduce torque steer.

So this does still exist, I just lost the cord to connect my camera to the laptop. I also just got the internet again since I moved in May, as opposed to going to my moms to use it. Had a lot of shit going on lately, new job at the top right now. Finally left Wendy's management and got a job as a mechanic at a local shop with a great reputation, thanks to my buddy who works there. I'll update more when I get my camera cord.
