OK so this is whats up...
My engine kicked the bucket on my 1989 civic si hb. I like the car so I decided to put a new engine into it. After a few days of phoning around i had 2 main options, 1) do a replacement swap for a D16 or 2) do a B16 swap. Because im 17 and I want to have a fast car i opted for the b16 swap, so i borrowed some money from my parents and called up JK Japanese auto parts in Richmond BC and asked for an engine. i went out there the next day and picked out a b16 which i payed for and had delivered to honda in chilliwack (where i live). Honda then recomends that i get a new timing belt and water pump just to be safe so i did. I ended up waiting a week for the correct water pump to arrive. The tech at honda then begins to remove my old engine. I call up the tech 2 a few days later to ask how its going and he gives me a big speech about how hes only getting paid for a weeks woth of work and the swap is going to take him 2 weeks to do because he has to fabricate stuff. but im still getting a good deal because he tokk on the job so he has to finish it. So i get a call from honda today and they tell me to come in because the tech needs to show me something. so i call up one of my friends because honda obviously has my car and he gives me a ride there. i walk in to the garage and the tech tells me that its not going to fit. he said that the engine is hitting the rear subframe and the only way to fix it is to order in a new subframe or to notch this one , but he can't notch this one because he is a licenced mechanic and it would be illegal to do that. so this is where i am at now...i have limited funds to order in the parts to do the job and the engine place said they need to talk to the mechanic to ask him why it wont fit... has any one heard of having to notch the rear subframe in order to make a b16 fit into an 89 civic si???
