Me wants a cigar now. Maybe with a glass of single malt.. yum.

As a car repair tech I always turn or replace rotors when doing brakes. In the past I have pad slapped and had no issues at all. Warped rotors can come from over heating the brakes, as happened to me many times at the track, not just from a caliper issues. As for slotted rotors that is a long heated discussion. I personally like to run them on my tuners cars, I get a better brake feel and slightly better braking as well as cooler brakes. Brembo blanks have served me very well in the past as well.
B16 nice Del Sol track car you have there. Sorry to see you have had so much trouble with the B18C block. We all have been threw issues like this. Mine was a PR3 head that was cursed. Had stripped cam cap threads, needed full valve job, oil seals and guides. When I got it back from the shop the valves where worse then when I gave it to them. They f@#%ked up the valve seats and ruined the head by the end of it and would not replace it. It was going to cost me $500 to fix the head at a real shop. So I trashed the head and got another. IMO you should just get a new block either another B18C, B18C5 or do a mild build on a B18C1. Wish I still had my Del Sol, it was going to be my track car. But I had to sell it, it did donate some parts to my EJ though :). Loved the Del Sol handled like a go cart, just needed B18 power.
My Del Sol Si
Intake Greddy header and cat back, hasport mounts, eibach sportlines and GR2's (now on my EJ) eibach sway bars and full roll cage.

Thanks,
The motor is fine and making good power now (200whp). My issue is the clutch at the moment. She'll get fixed again, hopefully before the year end.

And you shouldn't be warping rotors merely from overheating them. Trust me, running 225 width slicks slowing from 130mph to 30mph braking as late as possible on a race track will put just about as much heat into Honda rotors you could possibly generate (without dragging your brakes which is a driver issue) and I have never warped a rotor.

Is that a custom roll bar in that sol? Looks good.

It was a roll cage kit that I got online. From the pics you cant really see but the rear is fully caged and connected to the front (you had to climb over the bars to get in or out of the car) all fully wielded to the body. Made it super stiff, it could rip threw turns. I have seen people over heat rotors from heavy braking, towing, driver error is really common. Not trying to disagree JME and I have been doing it for a while now. Other things can warp rotors as well, like bad hub bearings, over tightening lug nuts, stuck caliper slides or piston. Correctly functioning brakes with a good driver no should not warp, but I have manage to put enough heat into blanks after a few good runs that have heat spotted and micro cracked the rotors. I have even had brake fade toward the end of a hard run, it was pretty scary lets just say I needed to replace my home made diffuser and my shorts, ended up in some dirt when the brakes faded going into a turn. But that was all in the pads I was using at the time, turns out the Auto Zone pads that came on the car not so good for race day. Glad to hear you got the motor issues worked out, hope your bottom end goes for 100k+.

Ah, which race tracks were you on? I've been road racing for 11 years and never had a problem.

That track is retarded like palm beach international here (moroso)...you guys have so many awesome tracks out there...I hate you guys lol.

I warped cold rotors just applying slightly too much pressure while bedding them in, it can happen several different ways. Im not a fan of cross drilled but i might be trying some slotted soon.

I think I figured out my brake problem :) I will update my thread most likely soon.

Yeah Firebird may close though and PIR is really far away from me. Hope Firebird stays open, the drag strip is very decent and they have a lot of skid pads for different racing events.

Nice, another NASA guy! I've never been to the AZ tracks.

Curious on your brake problem vtecsir1.

Ok, looks like I'm going to pull the tranny off next week as I'm off work all week to figure out the clutch issue.

Then looks like I'll get 1 more track day in (Jan early Feb) before I go on hiatus with baby #2 due shortly.

Maybe 2013 will be the year for me to get real srs

Bravo

^ Nice to see a guy that really has his shit together. For a youngster you have a maturity about you - track experience and family experience.

Take a time out for the new child and mama and then when the time is right, back to the hobby you love.

Life needs balance - family and fun are both important. Too many times guys sell all their toys when family kicks in - good recipe for future dissapointment. Then the other side of that coin is too much play for others.

I'm impressed.

Thanks man,
Am I young? My wife thinks I'm already going through a mid-life crisis. :P

Ya, I don't mind waiting. There are a few other things I would like to do to the car anyways. I should still be able to participate in LeMons racing later in the year. Too much going on between Feb and Aug to really do much else besides lose sleep with the new baby and taking care of my 2 year old. Oh and I suppose work in there somewhere?

I actually discussed with my wife parting out and selling the car during this downtime. But only to pick up an already prepped s2k to replace it. :) No way I can give up this hobby. I think she knows I would be really unhappy later anyways.

But, I think I'm going to hang onto this car for some more time. It is cheap to run and easy to work on. In my old age I have become quite stingy with my money.. :) I can drive it hard since the chassis can be replaced quite easily and inexpensively.

BTW, I still need to send you a cigar!

You're a youngster compared to me. ;) But, yeah you're old enough to know better at 33 - and you do. I compliment you with your perspective. You'll survive marriage - I didn't fare to well there - oops. Fortunately, still on good terms with 2nd ex and her kids - we split 10 years ago.

Sounds like a very good plan, freshen up the car in your down time and I know wife will be pleased you are taking a break during this important time. The kids will benefit too, either you're a dad that's there when he should be or one that's not.

Did you smoke the Montecristo yet? Send me one when the child is born, I guarantee I'll smoke it in his/her honour.

Well tore into the car all day yesterday. I think I discovered the problem..

Only at the moment I was to undo the bolts from the tranny case to the engine (read everything else pulled ready to drop the tranny) did I notice I was missing 4 top bolts that mount the trans case to the block! Where the hell did they go? Maybe I didn't tq them? :( Anyways, I pulled the tranny anyways since I got that far to inspect the clutch and flywheel. All looked good in there so I'm guessing with those bolts missing the case was separating some not allowing me to release the clutch all the way. Bugger, could have fixed it without removing anything. oh well..

I did notice my front rotors were even worse than I thought. I'm lucky they didn't disintegrate on track. One of my pads split and fell apart also when I removed the brakes. Brand new DTC pads. Sucks I really like the feel of these pads, but not sure if the cracked rotor is what cause the pad to go? Possible. I'll try another set and see how it goes.

Looks like the car is about ready for its first event in 2012 (Wherever that might be..)
