So how many inches are in a mile? Well in a kilometer there are 1000x1000 millimeters. Not too hard to do in your head.

Actually, Google has a built in calculator and converter. Type something like:

12 feet in meters

or

half a cup in teaspoons

in the search bar and it will convert it for you.

we use the system we use for a reason. it has something to do with construction and cost. my engineering professor was telling me about it last semester, and its right in the back of my head as to the exact explaination, damnit, lol.

back a few years ago (10+ years) there was a program of the government was trying to switch us to the standard, however, people never really excepted it, so it never happened. Sometimes on road trips, you may see sings saying "New York City, xx miles, xxx Kilometers.
