couldn't find a stock cluster to save my life so i settled for this riceball.

$100 on ebay.

started like this

originallook.jpg

removed this crap, and also switched over the ABS module since the new one lacked it.

and ended up with this :)

kinda hard to see in the pic but i discovered that he wired up a vtec light. i temporarily ran it to power so you could see it lol

so i installed an hid retrofit kit the other day :p

purchased from retro solutions on the honda-tech forum
DIY BiXenon Projector Retrofit Kits, LIFETIME WARRANTY - Honda-Tech
custom HID conversions, HID kits, LED, CCFL specialists - retrosolutions

now some pics! here is the lovely box that the kit came in

dsc1l.jpg

found this excellent translation on the side. thought it was pretty humorous lol

dsc2.jpg

part way through deconstruction

dsc3.jpg

in order to seperate the headlight halves i had to bake it in the oven at 200 degrees for 20 minutes. it's kind of squirly to say the least trying to accomplish this with oven mitts on, and also trying not to break any of the tabs off.

dsc4i.jpg

and here it is with the projector installed. after the stock reflector has been removed it will slide right through the stock opening. no cutting required.

dsc5t.jpg

dsc6y.jpg

at the back you can see where the rear of the projector comes through. there is an alignment ring, lock washer, and lock nut. the wires with the black connector control the high-beam functionality and angel eye. the clear harness coming through at the bottom controls the led backlight ring. in some cases you need to cut a hole through the reflector in order to fit that harness, however i didn't need to. the harness fits nicely through the hole where the stock reflector bracket used to be.

dsc8x.jpg

here is the completed headlight assembly. in order to reassemble you have to bake it in the oven again so that the sealant becomes pliable and gooey again. the kit also includes 2 good sizes tubes of extra sealant if you need them.

dsc7.jpg

and here they are reinstalled back on the car

dsc9c.jpg

here they are with just the angel eye rings turned on. they appear blue in the picture but they are actually bright pure white.

dsc10.jpg

dsc12x.jpg

the led backlit colors are hard to capture with the camera so i didn't bother posting them up. they basically light up the reflector housing behind the projector.

anywho, here is a pic of the light output. it's not as great as say tsx retrofits, but still quite nice i think. certainly miles above putting hids in stock housings.

dsc13y.jpg

one more for ya. yes my sisters car is bubblegum pink btw lol

dsc14.jpg

ok i think that about covers it. hid color is pure white 5100k btw.

agreed with projectors. i have been looking at the projector install on these universal kits for a while and i am glad i tripped across this. props on the install.

HIDs are great light sources but the projector is a must. Motorized kits allow you to keep the functionality of your HI/LO beams. it would be an H4 motorized kit. since the kit only uses one plug, on many cars we also install a second set of hid fogs and wire them into the unused headlight plug. everything is ran off a relay anyway.

yes, i quoted the whole post.

Picked up some gsr blades with tires the other day for $300. they're dunlop direzza 205/50/15's. 2 have like 65% tread life left and the other 2 have about 80% left. the blades look good but not great up close. clear coat is chipped up enough to bug me on 2 of them. i haven't decided yet what i want to do with them. i imagine having them machined and polished would be quite expensive, so my other option is painting them. not sure what color i'd paint them though : | what to do, what to do.

installed led license plate lights. couldn'd find em locally so picked em up from eBay for less than $10

also my new tail lights came in today.

Pics to follow..

so i'll share the change of plans at this point. i've decided to boost the hatch instead. it'd just be easier to get around a/c and p/s since it's non-existant lol. i'll still build the bottom end of an ls i'm thinking and put that in the hatch. i will be however still putting a b-series something in the coupe because it is so piss ass slow with that d16. after driving the hatch and going back to the coupe i was like really, this is unbearably slow lol.

now the time frame for this to happen i wish i knew. my brothers 62 ford thunderbird restoration project is currently taking up virtually all the garage space :(, so i don't know when or how i'll be able to do anything like a motor swap until it's out of there. a few uncertainties at this point, but i guess i'll see what happens.

anywho, some updates:

some parts from honda came in. including a new honda H for the grill, iacv seal, and high pressure a/c line.

my smoked fog lights also came in yesterday and my cat oliver was thoroughly interested in the box and tried for some time to tear it apart, so here's some pics of the fat little shithead lol.

alrighty, so here's the lights and parts that came with. i was pretty stoked that they give you basically everything you need, and it was very simple to hook up even without an install guide of any kind. also i was suprised that the lights themselves had some weight to them and didn't feel cheap. lenses are glass instead of plastic which i thought was nice also.

now it was getting late and started to rain so i don't have any pics of the install process, but it's fairly straightforward anyway. the brackets fit nicely and hold the relatively heavy lights securely in the bumper.

last but not least, i'm getting a new finish on the blades. the guy who owns LUXURY POWDERCOATING is doing both my friends wheels and mine for a really nice price, so i'm getting them chrome plated :p

Might wanna pull those fogs apart and make sure the wire for hte light is routed properly. Escially if those are the cheap ones from ebay. I bought a set and they had routed the + wire under the clip that holds the bulb in place (h3), vibrations caused the insulation to strip back and bam! they shorted out and burnt up the wire from the relay to the light.

damn, im liking those generic hid retrofits.. not bad at all
props for doing that right.. i see a TON of cars on the road with hids in regular housings

people ask why i dont have hids in my hatch a lot.. lol

So i've been busy and haven't got around to updating in awhile here are some pics i finally got together.

Got my function form type one's in and installed them on the 25th of october

kinda slammed it at first but have brought it back up about an inch front and back. rode great but just didn't have enough ground clearance otherwise lol.

Nov 12: it now desperately needed an alignment and i decided just to park it until this could be done. before i could have that done however i had to wait for my buddy to be available to remove the old front wheel bearings and install the new ones. They were in bad shape and i knew not only did they need replaced but the chances of getting it aligned like that was pretty slim also. anywho, on with pics.

Getting started

42559373.jpg

first side out

72754538.jpg

both knuckles out, about to head to the shop

56977014.jpg

removal of rusty dust shield

16820371.jpg

what was left of it

29099100.jpg

pressing in the new bearing

77121152.jpg

and now grinding off the old outer race

23733697.jpg

i should have taken pics of the complete product but i guess i forgot.. alcohol may have played a part in that but i cannot say lol.

i did think to snap a pic of my buddies supra though with the new turbo on it. can't remember the specs on it cause honestly he's changed turbo's like i don't even know how many times lol, but i do believe it is a 75mm with a 5 inch inlet and 4 inch out. it's also now running twin gates because the single one wasn't cutting it. on 93 it made almost 600whp and on race fuel it made 863whp. later he found out their was a discrepancy between what the AEM engine management saw and what the air fuel gauge was displaying. it appears that he's actually been running more rich than he thought so once he gets that figured out and retuned he's expecting another 50hp on pump and to break 900 on race :-o

51317608.jpg

at this point i still don't have it aligned because i tried 3 different places and nobody could get the car on the rack. one place couldn't even get it through the garage door because of the incline in the asphalt leading up to the building. needless to say i have to take it to a NTB that i found about 20 minutes away that has an in the ground alignment rack. hopefully if everything goes well i should get this taken care of on Monday.

Lastly i installed a new rearview in the coupe. i love the one in the hatch so much that i decided i'd like one in the coupe as well. I figured i'd get a nicer one though while i was at it :p

old mirror

49839200.jpg

mirror removed and then removed from base which i then reinstalled.

12272268.jpg

metal tab attached with rearview sealant kit

93905718p.jpg

temp sensor that i installed behind the front bumper near the foglight (read that this was a common place they are mounted from factory)

57358327.jpg

and the finished product. has autodim, compass, and ambient outside temp. The display is normally green from factory but i paid a little extra for it to be deep blue.
