Anyone had the head off and seen if the F23 block is open or closed deck. If you don't know Open deck means there is a space between the Cylinder walls and the block for coolant, closed deck the cylinder walls are braced up against the block, like if you added a Block gaurd. Just checking to see how strong the block is! I know the F20B accord SiR motor has Iron sleeves that are solid deck and can handle some mean boost, I am hoping that the f23 at least is closed deck.

Well according to a few engine building companies and my local Honda dealer they can't say for 100% sure but they all think its closed, which is whay I have been told but who know.

My guess was just based on the fact that all 97+ H-series are open. Let me do some research.

From http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com :

A diagram of a 95 Prelude VTEC (H22A4) block:
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j...R+BLOCK-OIL+PAN
It appears to be a closed deck block.

A diagram of a 95 Accord EX (F22B1) block:
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j...R+BLOCK-OIL+PAN
It appears to be an open deck block.

A diagram of a 99 Accord (F23A1) block:
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j...R+BLOCK-OIL+PAN
It appears to be an open deck block.

I know it's not undeniable proof, but it looks pretty good to me.

Could be opened deck, but I have noticed on that site you posted that there are many diagrams that are incorrect, so I guess I'll wait and see. Thanks for the help though.

Another thing that makes it hard to go by the diagram is that I have seen many engines of all series that were both opened and closed deck and it shows a lot of them as open that I have seen in person be closed. Oh well I guess I'll find out soon enough.
