ok right now i have the sygate personal firewall. it works good but sometimes it just uses up 100% of the computer process, makes everything freeze(ive waited up to 1 hour before and never "unfroze"), and i have to restart the computer. anyways, im looking for something to replace it. ive tried zone alarm, pc-cillin, and injoy before but liked sygate better. what do you guys recommend?

you want a hardware solution, or another pc dedicated to be a firewall. i would just buy a linksys router if i were you.

firewalls are useless for a personal computer IMO.

so just unistall the firewall and let the sp2 firewall run?

with zone alarm i had a problem with it flippin my connection on and off.

i dont really want to buy a router because id rather spend money on other things(mainly food).

im just looking for a good software firewall to replace sygate.

then yes, just use the sp2 firewall. i'im with b, i think they're a waste really.

Why do you guys think they're useless? ive been using the norton one but that is because im on the SDSU network and there is all kinds of shit on there. the worst by far was the gay porn pop-ups every time i turned on the computer.

"Four new vulnerabilities have been identified in Symantec's personal firewall products.

Symantec warned yesterday that hackers could exploit the flaws to render targeted systems inoperable or execute remote code with kernel-level privileges. The problems were discovered during product testing of Symantec's client firewall application by security firm eEye Digital Security."

Because no matter how badass your software firewall is, that IP address still points directly to your PC. If your hardware router gets pwn3d, they aren't touching the machines behind it.

that really has NOTHING to do with a firewall.
