I got 1 habanero, 1 tabasco, and 4 serranos growing. The serranos are starting to form some peppers but the hab and tabasco aren't yet. Any suggestions for some good dishes to make with them?

My pepper plants aren't growing well at all. I think it's still too cold for them. (low 80s day, low 60s/high 50s at night) Hoping to see some progress with them, as I have a whole row of just pepper plantss (1/5 of my garden). I have green, red, yellow, orange, and 3 variations of 'hot' pepper mix seed bags (not really sure whats coming to come out).

I was hoping to eat a lot of them raw, but also dry out and crush for 'crushed red pepper' -like shaker seasonings. Alos wanted to use them in my sauce I was planning to make.
Of course, that requires that my tomatoes were actually growing :( I have 4 tomato plants left out of 18. :(

I think the overnight low's is what it hurting you. Our tomatoes usually do great during the spring here when it only gets down to ~70 over night and ~85 during the day. If they ever do come in, watch out for tomato worms, those big fat things are nasty...

Never seen em that big. Actually I don't think I've ever seen em with the hair, just a bright light green fat ass worm with a horn.

Got my first bud today :)

it's not cucumber, probably zucchini. The cucumber stays low to the ground an grows outward almost like a vine. I noticed today that some of my corn plants are flowering (blooming? not sure what to call it with corn). I also have a tomato that's already turning red and quite a few bell peppers and serranos that are getting bigger. It's gonna get interesting here in a few weeks when I have more stuff than I know what to do with. I'm already at the point of giving squash away because they are growing faster than I can eat them.

raspberries are a berry, the plant is not something he planted, so i called them wild berries...:shrug2:

in other news.... If any of you haven't ever tried squash blossoms, they are fucking awesome. I cut a few off the other day to have with a quinoa/cucumber/goat cheese/olive wrap that I made using one of the cucumbers. With the blossoms, I took some fresh plum, chopped it, and mixed it with the goat cheese to a smooth consistency. Then I just used a ziploc as a piping bag to fill the blossoms. Then, I used a simple batter of flour and white wine, dipped the blossoms in it and deep fried them for about 1.5-2 min. Good shit, I can't wait to cut some more off and try something different with them.

I actually was going to post it, but I want to try some different ingredients first. The olive was too overpowering on the last one so I'm gonna try a couple things that I have in mind. I'll post it up when I figure it out..

That's why when you write your recipe you list to use a mellow olive oil.
Besides most people don't have legit olive oil, they almost always taste like normal oil but with a hint of olive oil to it.

I bought a nice bottle of olive oil, it will make your nose flare up with heat =)

first harvest... a nice 10" zuccini. I was debating picking this one as it was still growing every day all week, but i hear the large ones aren't' as tasty, so i grabbed it.
The same plant has 2 more already en route as well.

tomato plants are flowering finally.

no action on the peppers at all. barely bigger than when i took them out of the starter trays.

pumpkins are growing and as are the corn and peas, but still no signs of fruits yet.

So what it worth the hours of labor and whatever your cost was for supplies?

Other than the god damn bugs, I thoroughly enjoy doing this. It's nice to spend a few minuets outside checking on things and watching it grow, and checking new buds/etc since yesterday.

I'm sure there's a lot more fruit to come as there are buds everywhere. Just a matter of time now before everything starts blosoming into veggies i can eat.

I learned a few things early on the hard way, and next year, i'll be better at it. I don't mind a slight learning curve.

I just need to save a few for seeds in the end of the season for next years crop. That's the beauty of the heirloom variety... I never need to buy seeds again.
I didn't use all of the ones i bought anyway-- not even close. I didn't even open at least 20 envelopes. And a lot of stuff i planted didn't grow, or did and then died, or got eaten (don't know what happened to my asparagus... but the tops are all gone. lol) so i'll have to go back to the seed starter for those for next year.

I also need a better hardening process for next year as well, as well as not cheap out and double up on seeds per pot as it proved to be a tangled mess of plants for no good reason. I already have 3 egg cartons getting ready for next year-- or my chickens. I'm still looking into that as well. They are on CL for $20 a pop all around me. Just need to figure out a coop and maintenance of them, + feed. Town allows up to 12, just no roosters.

Awesome. Yea the smaller squash are better than the large ones.

This fuckin blows. I'll be leaving my garden behind in about 11 days because I'm moving out of the place i'm living.

Kind of a long story, but basically I have a roommate who had his girlfriend move into an empty room a few months back when we kicked a guy out. Well when she moved in they told us she had a normal job, but then we came to find out after she was moved in that she's a stripper. Then it starts to come out that the dude is selling rx pills out of our fucking house. Theeennn we find out that the girl is not just a stripper, but a fucking escort, ughhh, and she's fucking nasty looking, like a 3 at the most. So the other dude that lives here (there's 4 of us) knows about it now, but he's super passive,a nd too much of a nice guy to be a dick and kick them the fuck out. I've had it, and was planning to leave soon anyway but was trying to wait out the summer bcause of my plants (I put like $200 into that shit).

Well yesterday the two fucking losers started flipping the fuck out because i guess they found a couple fleas in their room and blamed it on my cat which never goes anywhere near there. They didn't even want me to take care of treating the carpet, just that I had to get the cat out that day (wtf? they have no authority anyway). So, basically I ended up saying fuck you and that I'm moving out. The other normal dude, who is the only one on the lease, is really cool and was bummed about it, but i'm fuckin out of here.

Yea so that rant was a bit longer than it shoulda been, but I'm really pissed about moving out because of two shady douchebag losers. I worked my ass off taking care of these plants every day and they are just starting to get really good. I have probably 50 ears of corn that are already getting bigger, tones of peppers and tomatoes, and more squash than I know what to do with. Too bad no one on here is local or I'd let people come try to dig these up and transplant. At least the cool roommate is gonna take care of it and use the veggies, but it sucks that I'm losing it all.

That blows, dustin.

If you stay semi- near by, maybe the cool guy will let you come by and partake in the harvest.

Too much to move, thats for sure....

I need to do some more trimming and weeding, but its too damn hot out this week.... It's mostly just crab grass.
