I didnt know that the oil inlet had to be facing upwards.... and the oil drain needs to be facing down. I thought it would work any way?

Why would oil be coming out of the downpipe flange... where the red circle is?

if it is not the oil would not be able to drain out fast enough and it could end up blowing the seals. not to mension the turbo wount be geting cooled so you could also cook the seals. might explain why you got some oil in the dp. i would clock the center section and see if that helps

so if the muffler shops say they can't fit a DP on there why not just flip the turbo around so the inlet is on the driver side? don't know if it's a must for H22's to have it facing the way you have it or anything.
