CEL is giving me a P0420 code (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold)

1. does that absolutely, positively mean bad CAT? Could it be a bad sensor (secondary o2 sensor, right?) in the CAT? How could I test the difference?

2. shopping for a new CAT - every website seems to have the same stuff and the same price range: $131 - $550. How do I know I'm getting the right one? I'm pretty sure I want the one with the "2-Bolt Welded Type Inlet, 3-Bolt Welded Type Outlet" just for simplicity sake, but what about brand? There's Eastern, Cato, Magnaflow, DEC, Bosal, etc. etc.

Any suggestions for brand or where to get it? Any advice what to look for or avoid?

Thanks!

I would personally go for OEM, unless you wanted aftermarket. Try checking out www.hondapartsonline.com That's Majestic Honda. They have some good stuff there. Best of luck and also, let me know what you find. I "may" have to replace my cat when I build my Y8 and turbo it.

Majestic was the first place I looked - not a cat on the list.

*NQO'TD: How do I know an OEM cat from an aftermarket cat? Or any other part for that matter? Brand name = aftermarket? How is an OEM part listed?

Thanks, Luis998

Thanks eg6sir!

That is one that's going to have to be welded right? That one doesn't come with the "2-Bolt Welded Type Inlet, 3-Bolt Welded Type Outlet" does it?

any muffler shop could weld some flanges on it for $20-25
