JDM SOHC ZC non-VTEC timing belt installation is same as USDM D16A6 Si engine - with engine at TDC on compression on cylinder #1, line up TDC on the crankshaft timing belt gear with the arrow on the oil pump cover - if timing belt cover and crank pulley are already on, line up the TDC mark on the crank pulley (the single mark off to the right of the 3 ignition timing marks) with the pointer on the timing belt cover - the camshaft timing gear has a mark at about 7 o'clock when "UP" is generally up - this mark lines up with the pointer on the inside timing belt/cylinder head back cover - refer to Si in the picture below:I found out that it is in fact a SOHC so we'll be using the Honda belt #14400-PM6-004 (we don't use the Gates belts). THANK YOU very much for the info!
Now, about the timing marks: is it normal for the timing marks to not line up? The mechanic said:
"When the crank pulley is lined up, the cam is too far off for the car to be running as good as it does."
Is this normal on the ZC engine?
