I do 100 to 150 grams of whey protein a day depending on what I eat. If I eat enough I'll do 2 drinks if I can't get enough down I drink a 3rd drink. I'm also hitting the 3000-4000 calorie mark.

Everyone is worried about carbs/protein but I don't think anyones said anything about calories. whats up with that?

Well I usually report on calories, but right now as long as I break the 4k mark that's all I care about.

And when it comes to cut, that's when it realllllly matters.

bumping an old thread again, but just curious as to how everyone is doing.. slammed did you reach your goal of 200 by jan?

im still bulking away.. im currently 175 lbs, 25 lbs heavier than when i started exactly a year ago. i have realized the importance of diet. i got a friend of mine (who was pretty scrawny at first) started in the gym, hes gained 8lbs so far just on diet + whey and lifting so far. pretty awesome to see results from the hard work i put in 5 days a week!

I gotta read through this better later. After a month or so, I could only put on 5 pounds. Had to stop hittin the gym so often after that because now I spend all my time workin lol.

i am going to start eating tuna. I used to eat 2-3 cans a day mixed with some mustard instead of mayo, that was when i was real serious about this in high school lol

get yourself some.
i use this and hot sauce on my tuna. it rocks.

I've been in the 170-173 range for about a month or two now. Haven't gained any weight, however I've got a little gut so I'm happy since clearly I'm getting bigger size wise. If I up my intake I'll just put on more fat rather then mass.

hoping to hit 180 by summer time. We'll see.

If you're really looking for a complete A-Z lifestyle(read: not diet and exercise), look into P90X.

-About an hour long workout 6 days a week
-A "diet" plan that results in you eating healthy, not dieting.
-Does an excellent burn while building muscle.

I actually think I'm going to try it out with my tax return money. Sick of going to the gym and waiting for a treadmill, bench, what have you.

dont' wait until day 1 to go balls in. you will quit by day 6.

do a couple sets of different reps, then be prepared to do the whole thing on day 1. if you do the whole setup on day one and your body isn't ready, you'll be sore as fuck and not workout for 5-8 days.

im 6'0 and about 165-170. fairly skinny but have a little gut and love handles SLOWLY increasing. i havent worked out in forever and probably have the worst diet you can imagine (fast food, frozen pizzas, beer, etc, college lifestyle lol).

i decided to download P90X and my and my gf started it. i was initially a little peeved cause all the commercials i had seen all say you only need some basic hand weights, but they have all kinds of crazy shit in the videos like pull up bars and workout bands, etc. i dont have a whole gym at my disposal, but i may look into one of those pull up bars that attaches to your door.

any way we started this week. i could only do about half of the first vid because i didnt have a pull up bar, and i still got wrecked lol. then the ab workout is pretty intense. 2nd day i could only make it through like half the "plyometrics" workout (intense cardio, lots of squatting and jumping and shit) and my legs just felt like jello. and like you said, im sore as fuck today so i took a day off. but i plan to try and keep up with it and slowly try to do more and more of the workouts until i can do the whole thing. i may just need to pace myself more so i can last the whole workout rather than burning out early. and the guy in the vids is a total tool lol. me and my gf literally crack up at the cheesy shit he says.

we also arent really following the diet guide. just doing the workouts and trying to eat more healthy. less fast food, and more fruits/veggies and more "real" food. im probably going to pickup the P90X "after workout drink mix" or whatever they call it. sounds like a mix between a protein drink and gatorade from how they described it lol. unless someone can suggest a good reason for NOT using the p90x stuff and using something else.

goals, just try to get in better shape without sacrificing TOO much diet-wise. i need the added exercise, thats a given. i sit on my ass 12hrs/day at work (4days on 4 off). i cant imagine that doing the workouts and eating more healthy that i wont see any results. im not after MAX results, just something better. not trying to be an OCD body builder calculating my every calorie or anything lol.

sorry for wall-o-text lol

im not tryin to be a dick here, but i cant see this working out too well.

while youll be burning more calories than you would in a typical day with just the workout, theres a reason theres a diet that comes with p90x. also, i realize that you said you weren't looking for insane results, but it seems to me that youll become discouraged if you dont notice something.

id suggest making over your diet completely. get with your gf and discuss it, and try to get some healthier food in the house (realize you have mentioned it above), take lunch to work, hell, take two or more meals to work with you since youre there for 12 hours.

if packing a couple meals is too much of a hassle, look into getting something for meal replacement (gainer shake, protein shake, etc.) While its not the best option, its better than fast food, ESPECIALLY if youre trying to tone up.
I gotta read through this better later. After a month or so, I could only put on 5 pounds. Had to stop hittin the gym so often after that because now I spend all my time workin lol.
5 lbs in a month is not bad gains at all...

This is the prefect example of a soon to be failed wanna lose weight diet/workout idea.

Think of it this way, you are now on a tight budget with money, so rather then chart what you spend, you just try to spend less, although you have no idea what you spend in the first place, just aim for less.... doesn't work that way.

When a skinny guy bitches about never being about to gain weight or a fat person bitches about never being able to lose weight the very first question they will get asked is how many calories do you take in in a day?

Every time it's the same thing.... I don't know......

Truth is skinny guy eats nothing and fat guy eats everything but doesn't think so.

When you get serous about getting in shape head over to bodybuilding.com and look around the picture threads for before/after pictures then look into their routines.

until then, let me save you some time by saying don't bother with P90x you're just wasting your time by only doing 30% of it.

and the guy in the vids is a total tool lol. me and my gf literally crack up at the cheesy shit he says.

Yeah, Tony Horton I think is his name? I've done some of the Power 90 videos (precursor to P90X), and if it's anything like that, then yeah, he's a cheesy mofo...

we also arent really following the diet guide. just doing the workouts and trying to eat more healthy. less fast food, and more fruits/veggies and more "real" food.

Hmmm, be careful with that. It's very much possible to lay off the fast food but still not actually be eating healthy. Aim for lean meats, and lots of veggies. Some starch is okay, but don't over-do it. Starchy foods contain the bad kind of carbs. Same with fruits, definitely eat some, but don't over-do it. Fruits contain sugar, so eat them earlier in the day when your body is still metabolizing as opposed to later...

whatever happened to positive reinforcement? lol

like i said, im not trying to be a body builder, im not trying to get max results and go all out, im not trying to have "the situation". if thats what you want, fine, but thats not what im after. my goals are pretty meager IMO. just lose some extra fat in abdominal region, and gain some upper body strength/muscle and increase my stamina with more cardio. im not fat, probabaly not even overweight for my height, just want to look a little better and be more fit.

the p90x workouts so far are giving me a nice "well rounded" workout, working out a little of everything. it gives you the opportunity to go at your own pace, but encourages you to push yourself if you feel you can. and i see that (so far). right now, i honestly feel like i will continue with it. if you dont believe me, ask me in a month if im still doing it, then in 2 months, etc, and we'll see. today i did the full arms/shoulders and ab workout (took more breaks that they did since im a beginner, but thats ok IMO), it was a solid 2 hr workout and i felt good about it. i dont see how quitting will help ANYTHING. how can the extra exercise and more healthy eating habits not be any different that eating fast food and sitting on my ass?

brutal, thanks for the suggestions. i really didnt think fruits were that bad, what is an example of "starchy" foods?

oh and whats with the cottage cheese? whats in it thats good? never heard of that before.

cottage cheese has casein in it. its breaks down more slowly than typical protein, enabling recovery over the night hours when you arent eating.

i understand you dont want crazy results. but im just suggesting that you re-structure your diet, or you'll get discouraged when you dont even see the meager results you want. either that or its going to take so long for you to notice said results, that you'll just quit. you can say your dedicated and willing to put in the time, but judging by your lack of willingness to change the diet, i cant see it happening.

in addition, is it really all that bad to adjust your diet? you've admitted that your diet is bad, and reducing your fast food intake by just eating a little less of it seems like a waste to me. fast food isnt good for you, and it isnt getting any cheaper either. why not just replace it with some good stuff?

like i said, im not trying to be a dick at all. i AM speaking from experience. i lifted for a solid year in high school (with every intention of gaining tons of weight) and never got ANYWHERE. it wasnt until i put in MORE effort outside the gym that i started seeing results. an adjustment in your diet will also have other positive effects on your life. it has with mine. just my 2 cents, you can take it for what its worth! lol

interesting about the cottage cheese. i didnt know that, thanks. i love cottage cheese but thought it was "bad" for you lol.

i didnt say i wansnt changing my diet. i said i wasnt going to go all crazy and count every calorie. maybe that wasnt clear. ive stopped eating fast food (subway's still in lol), and i eat more fruit and veggies now. im just not going to follow the p90x guide, rather just follow my own better eating habits. i love food. i appreciate different flavors, and i like trying new things. i dont want to be the guy out with friends and not have a burger or beer (or whatever) cause itll hurt my routine a bit.

but i DO want to use some sort of after workout drink type thing. dont know if everyone skipped over that or what. but should i go with the p90x stuff? or would you recommend something else?

People think diets mean not being able to eat chit. You can eat damn near anything you want as long as you keep it in your calorie limit.

someone your size (guessing) has around a 2500 calorie intake a day. That's a lot of room for food a day.

Eggs are 90 calories so 4 eggs = 260
Sandwiches should run you around 500-600 for lunch less if you use a wrap and no mayo use something like mustard.

That leaves around 1500-1800 for dinner. That would be a steak, a hamburger, a lot of pasta dishes, hell even a side of fries with the burger would fit into that diet.

It's the little chit that adds up like random snacks, sodas, beer. It gets over looked and can easily add 500+ in calories a day.

So when people talk about diet, it doesn't mean you have to eat carrots and cucumbers day in and day out, you can eat damn near anything you want as long as it fits your daily intake.

People also think if you're into body building it means you want to get big, nope, it means you want to build your body into whatever it is you have in mind for you that could be a 6 pack and some definition, for me it's a nice midway ripped but not massive, for the next guy it could be fully jacked.

Figure out what you want, again go to bodybuilding.com and view pictures of people and find out what they did.

Only reason we're being so hard on you is to save you time. You might work out 6 months and not see the slightest change, then you say F it and stop doing it all together. I'm just trying to save you some wasted time. If I look back on myself 6 months ago, it's crazy the change. Well worth counting calories within a few hundred as with working out 5 times a week.

i misread your diet plans. they make more sense after re-reading them. as far as a post workout, pure whey is going to be your best bet. and maybe grab a tub of casein, that is best right before bed.. try to get whey in your system within 2 hours of your workout (after)

^this!

Minus the tats this is my ideal build.

Not sick big but just a nice over all build.

Should take me around 2 years although I'm halfway there. however you always gain fast at first so now I'm in the hardpart of gaining.

i probably could never get that big lol, im a thin guy, always have been. like someone mentioned before, i would have to really fight my body to get that. id rather have a more slim build but still some muscle tone (not uber-ripped), maybe like a swimmers build or something, hard to describe without pics.

I'm probably a bit bigger or the same size now, but definitely fat compared. When I cut for the next 6 mos(post valentize day) I will definitely lose a a bit of that size and look more like this.
