When I put the jumper wire in the systems diagnostics connector, should my CEL light come on? Mine isn't and a couple of things I've read on here seem to indicate that it should. My SRS light flashes but not the CEL.....

OK. So I did as CAFROG said to do. When the engine was cold it was right on my 16 degree mark. After it warmed to correct temp it was only at about 5 degrees BTDC after I adjusted the distributor as far as it would turn. I am at a loss now as to what to do. Going to read the Helms manual...

Thanks, dj. I get all that but I can't turn my distributor any more in the direction it needs to go. That's why I was wondering if somehow my timing belt is off a tooth or two...

Well I turned the distributor all of the way to one side to get it running better but it's still not quite right. Guess I will pull the timing belt and see if that's the problem :P

Do I need to use gasket sealant on my head gasket? I would think so, but the manual isn't very clear on this.....

Thanks for the tip. I ended up having to take it off to get to some kind of sensor that was in the head underneath of the distributor housing. Now to figure out how to best clean the gunk off of the head.....
