Hey what's up everyone?!? I recently purchased a 89 ef hatch from this guy who didnt take care of it at all. It's a real junker right now. I'm almost embarrassed to put pics up but they will come soon hahaha. Anyways...I am planning on doing a complete engine and tranny swap. My choices have come down to either K20 type-r or a B18C type-r. What do yall think would be the best for my car? I want to re-do the entire car(engine, suspension, interior,exterior,etc.) but I also want to put a turbo on it. Which engine do you think would have the best power to work with the turbo boost? Any help would be much appreciated :) I am still learning a lot about engine work so bare with me. I am stoked on this idea and need opinions. Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!!
 
If you want a turbo. Get a LS & turbo it. At first til Igot to bottom of your post I would've went with B18C5 for all motor. Is your EF a DX or SI? Depends on your money also, hp etc...
 
What's an LS? I have an 89' EF Hatchback. Also, yes, I want to turbo it. So go with what like a 96' or up jdm?
 
dont get a b18c5 or k20a if you are gonna turbo it. they have too high compression ratios to be highly boosted. get a ls motor (b18b) because it has lower compression than the type r motors. if you are going non-turbo, get a k20a type r, the best engine for non turbo cars. the regular b18b is a lot cheaper than the type r motors and will make more power when turboed. b18b compression ratio = 9.2:1 b18c5 compression ratio = 10.6:1
 
ok let me rephrase, if your going all motor k20a type r if your going turbo k series all the way.not all k series has high compression. but its all in the tune any how
 
what other K model?
do some research homeslice. if you don't know what an ls motor is, you probably don't know anything about hondas. and if you don't know at least what an ls is, i dont' think you have money for any of it.

start reading around the forum and get a better understanding. if you just want to go fast, buy something already built. it sounds like you don't have the know how to replace or even fix anything. so find something reliable.

heres something real for you....

1) buy an b18a motor swap.
2) get brakes, good suspension, and good tires
3) take a driving course. it will teach high speed cornering, braking, and handling
4) once you can handle that car, then think about a turbo.

do some research. you'll see it doesn't make a damn bit of sense to put a $10k motor into a $1000 car. if you can even sniff that money, more power to you. but then why have an ef?

Hey dude, calm down a bit. He was just pointing out a Very Reliable B Seriers motor for you that would be a good bace start for you, and Not slam your pocket all that hard vs a K seriers which is ushally expensive and takes alot more money. Alot of the forum members are goin to tell ya to go with a K if ya got the money, but I would say go with a B if this is ya 1st build, ya will learn alot more for alot less and then you can really decide what you want to do with you car... Take alook around the forum at others peoples builds, maybe ya see something you like!:rolleyes:

It doesnt have holes in the roof and rats in the exhaust. Man it really pisses me off when I come to get help on here and everyone acts like they are the golden goose that can build any car you put in front of them. I told you guys Im still learning shit every day. You act like I'm supposed to know it already. Isn't that what these forums are for? Learning and opinions from the more experienced? YES. So if you don't have anything good to say don't say anything at all. Didn't your momma teach you?

Dude I don't normaly flame, but your actting a bit imture. People here are trying to help you. From what I have read, most people are saying Go with a K if you can afford it. But then there wondering why you want to stick a 5k worth of motor in a maybe 1k car? there just trying to see what you are thinking is all. They are also trying to say if u want to learn more then go with a simple B swap in your car... so before you go punching members with ya temper you should take a min and think alright...
