hey guys... been reading your forums(and many others) for weeks and weeks. ive been reading soo much that im finally giving in and asking you guys cause im tired of searching.

ive got a 91 si hatch that i drove hard and im wanting to rebuild after i blew the head gasket and got it hot. i just recently purhased a D16Y8: intake manifold, complete head, valve cover, fuel rail, injectors, and v-tec solenoid off ebay for $103($51 everything,$52 shipping) i believe all im missing to complete this is: P28 ECU, Y8 distributor, OBD0 to OBD1 conversion harness(undecided which), Y8 timing belt, Y8 intake manifold/exhaust manifold/head/valve cover gaskets, Y8 throttle body, v-tec controller(undecided which), plugs, wires, ARP studs, AEM adjustable cam gear... what else is there???

*remove oil jet from my A6 block*

im taking everything to a machinist to get everything port matched, get everthing looked at(maybe/cleaned and possibly an overbore(depends on how much $$$) im also rebuilding the bottom end. i will be going turbo later but for now i want to build it strong as hell(eagle rods, forged high compression pistons, ACL thrust/main/rod bearings)

i just want to get her back on the road without half-assing anything and paying for it later. any advice/suggestions welcome. thanks...

the high compression pistons were just a thought... im not going to mess with a turbo set up until im confident enough to build it all myself. ill fork out a little extra dough for some durable slugs. im even considering a closed deck,sleeves,76mm vitaras.... but im wanting to buy another hatch and run in NASA with it (everthing OEM damn near) once i get that one conquered, ahhh... turbo....

oh yea... that intake manifold/head/ect. were off an automatic... please tell me it will work. it was too cheap not to buy.

i dont plan on boosting anytime soon. i want to get another hatch and run in NASA with it. once i have my competition(OEM) car built to spec then ill consider messing with a turbo. im even considering a closed deck, sleeves, and 76mm vitaras... but $$$... overall, i just want to get my si up and running STRONG

There is no need for a VTEC controller, and dont use ACL bearings. OEM Honda bearings are way better than anything aftermarket, Honda uses a nitrate coating on all its bearings and bearing surfaces.

ok, no v-tec controller... why is this? thanks for the tip on bearings... can anyone verify this info??? and what about the "AUTOMATIC" Y8 intake manifold/head... will they work on my "MANUAL" A6??? also...

*** for anyone using this info... i just read a post talking about using 9 A6 head studs and 1 Y8 head stud. look into it!!!

i know.... thats why im here reading yall's info. any info on using a Y8 intake manifold & head off an auto' for a manual A6... will it work???

From what I read a LONG time ago, you should use the manual manifold. Why? I'd have to re-research it again in order to find out. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

i know the iacv is setup differently between the manual and auto y8 intake manifold. now whether or not that would cause a problem i'm not sure.

damn... thanks for that info man!!! thank everyone... you guys are a great resource. i love the idea of getting as many opinions/experiences as possible. so the heads are identical??? cams??? please say the IM's are just a little diff...

I'm doing the exact same swap, so this will help me out as well, thanks guys!. I have an A6 IM on my Y8 head, just waiting to buy the Y8 IM as it offers higher flow. So you might want to check how each one flows. Take care and gl.

i still have EVERYTHING from the A6... would i be good to run the A6 IM on the Y8 head? or use the Y8 IM i have? or get a manual Y8 IM...

Definately go with the A6 for now then. A good flow upgrade is a B-Series TB. Get the 2-layer Y8 head gasket, as it will bump up your CR. Get either an OEM d16z6 cam gear (about $20 at your local dealer) or an AEM adjustable cam gear $199. Also the d16z6 cam gear does the exact same thing though, I believe.

pihh! i could never justify spending $200 for just an adjustable cam gear. i paid $45 shipped on ebay for a hayame cam gear for my old a6/y8 setup and it worked perfectly fine. didn't look too bad either.
